Not familiar with the Tacoma engine (yet). Just wondering if what I'm seeing this picture (lower left area) is the exhaust or if it is something else rusting in the engine bay, maybe back on the fire wall. If it is the exhaust, does that look about right for an '08?

    Thanks!

Not mine (yet). Looking at buying it this weekend. I'm debating between this one and a 2007 that's about the same but with fewer miles.

They're both pretty clean but both have their downsides. The '08 (shown here) has 100k miles but is much cheaper and closer. The '07 is much further away, more expensive, but has only 66k miles. Only reason I'm shying away from the '07 is that its lived up around Buffalo all its life. The frame doesn't look bad at all, but I'm just uneasy about a truck from that part of the country.

This '08 has lived in Arkansas most of its life.

How much is the price difference between the two? Is there a lot of frame rust from the truck that is in Buffalo?

Not a lot of frame rust. I posted pictures in another thread. I'm awaiting the pictures from the dealer regarding the '08. He told me it has "no rust anywhere", whatever that means. I want to see pictures to believe him.

The '07 in Buffalo has a little rust (not much) for $20,800 and is in great shape everywhere else. It has 66k miles.

The '08 is within driving distance, has "no rust" (I hope) for $17,500 and is also in great shape everywhere else. It has 99k miles.

Don't be scared of those miles. Just keep your maintenance up and you will have it for another 200k plus miles. The 08 is really clean and a fair price I think.

My thought as well. Awaiting dealer photos of the frame to confirm. Then I'll be driving 200 miles instead of flying 1,300 miles.

^^x2 to the miles and maintenance 99k is nothing and I think that's a decent price as well. If that's his starting price you might try and make it an even 17k or 16.5k and just see if he will wiggle or if that's firm.

nah, I talked him down from $18k and he's savvy enough to know the Tacoma market. He's firm at $17.5k. It appears to be a good deal.

I would buy whichever one you want. Just assume they are both going to have a couple areas you want to spot treat when you get it.

I like the black Krylon Rust-tough. That stuff is amazing and is one of the few products that is as advertised.

Taco motors go a lot longer than 100K so dont worry about that. Get the 08 from AZ. Rust is the tacos biggest enemy.
