First off - thanks to everyone who contributed to my search, as frustrating as it might have been to try helping me. The input I received from this site was greatly appreciated and considered thoroughly.

I wound up getting a 2008 4x4 double cab with TRD, SR5, and tow package. It rolled over to 100k on the way home from Dallas. Still drives and sounds like a new truck. It has some cosmetic flaws, but mechanically it is nearly flawless as far as I can tell. Paid $17,620 cash money after all fees, etc.

To be honest, I like the cosmetic flaws. They allow me to worry less about keeping it in mint condition. Now I'll need help figuring out what to do next.

Enough already! Here are the pics...

Nice job, underneath especially is amazingly clean. Doesn't look like there's a soot of rust there! Could just be the picture but it looks like your first upgrade might be new tires?

Absolutely on the tires. I'll probably ride them out through the summer and try to get some newer ones around winter time. Our winters aren't bad here, but there are a few weeks a year where the roads are solid ice/sleet/hard pack ice, so I'd like to get something by then.

The dealership I went to was pretty small, and I was pushing them to give me half a tank of gas, some new wipers, and a few other little things. Tires would have been out of the question.

The frame IS that clean. It is in fantastic shape. The truck spent its life in Arkansas before I bought it in Dallas.

What's crazy is while I was signing the papers for it, a lady called and asked to see the truck. The guy told her someone was buying it right then, and she said, "What do you mean right now?". The dealer said, "Someone is literally signing the paperwork and just handed me a check." The lady says, "Awww, really????" in this pleading tone.

I wanted to tell her - look, lady. I've been on your side of this situation about 10 times over the last 6 months, now. Its my turn to be the one driving off in a Tacoma before someone else can grab it!

 Good find! That frame looks brand new. Almost seems to good to be true for over 100k. Before it does rust hit it with some protection in the boxed section. After all your looking you should be very happy.

By boxed section, you just mean the part of the frame that doesn't have a more "C" shaped cross-section, right? If so, are you saying I need to do a fluid film (or something) protection inside the box section?

Nope. Right under where your legs would be where the frame goes from C to []

check this thread out... it's scary but your frame looks superb so you can hit it early on. You know the whole .....ounce of preventions > pound of cure

I've actually read that entire thread (that's the main reason I bought this one with 100k instead of one near Rochester with 66k). I just never knew exactly where/what the boxed section referred to.
