I'm putting 885s on and I'm pretty clear on the removal and install of the shock. Question is: how do I remove the plate from the top of the factory coil and attack to the 885?

OME complete kit with dakars, LR UCAs, Seat covers, weathertechs, anytime foglight mod, ABS kill switch, locker anytime mod, powered sub, halos, leer topper, aux/ipod hookup.
Never had to do any suspension work on my tacoma, but I would assume you will have to compress the coil spring and then unbolt...

Light bar and bumper guard, 3/16 steel skid plates for engine, tranny and transfer box, OME 881 springs with 5100 shocks at mid clip. AAL in rear. Positraction rear diff.
You can take it to a auto parts store and have them do it, check around, or you can rent or buy a set of spring compressors and do it yourself. I suggest if you do it to do a search of how it's done and make sure you understand the dangers involved. It's really pretty simple but it's also dangerous.

I know about compressing the spring. The piece on top with the three bolts attached seems attached to the factory coil... And one bolt attaches that to the shock. How do I put that top piece one the new coil?

It's the piece at the top... It seemed attached to the coil when I installed my 5100s

^What? You unbolt the strut rod from the mounting plate, take note that the bushings need to be installed on the new one. put the coil on the new strut, put the bushings on and bolt up the strut rod to the top plate and your good

But it looks like the three bolt plate that attaches to the mount plate is attached to the original spring... How do I remove that from the factory spring?

    Lots of Stuff
It just sits on top the spring (not attached to it), see #18 in below diagram. Nut 23 holds everything down on the shock shaft. Nut 19 is the three nuts that hold the assembly to the frame mount.

So to disassemble, compress the spring then remove nut 23, then everything will come apart in pieces in order of the diagram.

so basically the nut at the top of the shock is the only thing holding it to the truck? is the plate with three bolts more along the lines of a bushing for the whole assembly than actually attaching the spring to the truck?
