I need to replace my front shock due to one of them completely bending. I have a 2005 4X4 tacoma with a three inch rough country suspension lift. Im not sure really how to fix it. I was wondering if you guys had and suggestions for the smartest thing to do and the cheapest. Thank you - Heath

    Time for new front shocks.

I'm assuming you're running a top plate spacer above your coilover? Throw that thing out while you're working on stuff. It moves the shock assembly down without moving the bumpstop, so the shock becomes your bumpstop and causes the issue you're experiencing.

Some have had their shocks snap in half, so be happy you noticed now. Replace it before it gets worse.

Im pretty sure there is a spacer over the coil over, when I got the lift put on they only put new shocks in the rear

I suggest matching some nicer coil-overs without SPACERS to it. 5100's or OME nitro/OME 885 would be good. Do you have offroad bumper?

Steps to take the bent shock out.
    1. Jack it up safely
    2. unbolt top 3 shock bolts and lower shock bolt.
    3. take off the old spring
    4. throw away the shock
    5. WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO TO DO THAT?
    6. replace with nice coilovers not spacers.
    7. profit

Depends on if you are comfortable messing with a spring compressor.

#1 Remove the spring and put it on some 5100's..(that would require a spring compressor..if your comfortable doing such a thing)

#2 Buying pre-assembled coilovers like this. Taking off the spacer lift is a must too..forgot to add that :D

Would it be cheaper to buy pre assemblemed shocks or buy some and have to go get someone put them on for me

Just buy a coilover which will have the shock already assembled inside the coil for you. If you were to buy 5100's with 885's separate it would run ya around around $380 plus labor and the 5100's are adjustable from 0 to .85, 1.75, 2.5. The 885's will give ya 1.6"-2.5" of lift alone. Labor I would say maybe 150-200. What is your budget for this??

Total $580 for the front end done correctly

I would recommend calling around to different tire shops and asking them how much it would cost to install new struts with coils and have them assemble the struts and coils. Best price wins :)

factor in an alignment too, you for sure knackered the alignment if you hit that hard...

    just sayin'

it would be good to develop some mechanical skills as I doubt your are going to stop off roading, doing it yourself is cheaper and you know its done right, trusting mechanics to do your repairs sometimes can bite you...

    You need:
    *Shocks - OME or 5100
*Coils - OME 885 or Eibach, unless you want to use the original coils with 5100s @ max lift
*top plate (if you are having them pre-built, otherwise use the original)

Cheapest route is DIY, stock coils, and 5100s. Find someone local on the forum that can give you a hand and rent a spring compressor.

A slew of pricey stuff my wife hates me for.
885s, 9000 nitros, have them install the extended spacer studs (you may need them in the future, best to get them installed now), and have them preassemble them. $650.

Lift the truck safely. Remove the old junk and toss it into the garage to collect dust. Install the new stuff. Alignment.

I would not personally mix the OME coils with Bilstein 5100s. There have been people that had issues with that.

Spacers with the OME lift just sounds like a bad idea. I don't believe you need the extended studs to install the Trim Packer. Also the extended studs without spacers will make the nuts harder to put on and torque during install, they will be a lot closer to the inner fender.

You see the tires that kid is cramming under his truck? He will probably need close to 3".

I just picked up the 13mm spacers from a guy in NJ. He left the extended studs (we're talking 1/2" longer) in after removing the spacer without any issues. Might be tight, but the OP will more than likely be better served having them there. He'll end up ordering the spacers ;)

They look big but it could be the crappy spacer lift he's got.

    OP what size tires?
