:( So yea, hit a tree at about 40 MPH. Airbags saved my life no doubt. Poor poor taco, many unforgetable memories in this truck..

    RIP my BLACK TACO

does turning tires to black wall out count? How bout added snug top rebel.
Glad you're ok! Every time I see one of these threads where a Tacoma has been in a serious accident, I'm always amazed that the cab stays so intact, the windshields hardly even crack after huge collisions! Makes me think that Toyota really engineered these tacoma's to absorb big impacts by directing the energy away from the cab, and I feel that my family and I are pretty safe while in our Tacoma.
Also, a close friend of mine rolled a 2008 or 2009 tundra seven times when she fell asleep with the cruise control on 80. She woke up when she went off the right shoulder, over corrected, rolled seven times across the road, across the other shoulder and through a barbed wire fence. She was fine, her 9 year old son had some bruises, and they're unrestrained golden retriever was freaked out but fine. Besides all the airbags, the cab was in pretty good shape, definitely didn't look like it had been rolled at eighty mph.
They sent their story to Toyota, to let them know they thought that they would have been much more seriously injured if they had been driving anything else.

Thanks everybody, appreciate it. As for my name... LOL... it's a handle I've used for quite some time. Not necessarily what i'm about. I'll post some details about the accident here in a little while.

I'm thinking about getting a 93-94 MR2, but not too sure. I loved having a truck and am not sure I am a car guy

OP had an almost textbook 40 mph offset frontal impact. The truck was designed from the get-go to withstand it. In the OP's case, the tree was likely softer than a concrete barrier, so the impact forces are reduced. Notice OP's mirror didn't flip forward like in the IIHS test:

Damn man... Glad you're okay! I've had to cut people out of cars doing about that same speed into a tree. Good to know that our trucks can handle that shit.

Once again... Glad your safe. The truck can be replaced.

Well, if no one else is gonna say it, I will:

    "That'll buff out!"

Really, though... Glad you're OK. Damn trees are out to get us - someone should do something about those things.

Glad to see another Tacoma owner driving away from a wreck, my friend has a first gen and hit a telephone pole going 40 also, he hit the pole head on, knocked it over, and is still driving it today. He had to replace the whole front end, radiator, belts and pulleys, air box, and skids, no frame damage, still unbelievable they didn't total it...

My dad got cut off on the highway and then they locked up their breaks and tried claiming that they hadn't. Luckily an off duty trooper saw it happen and negated their story.

Anyway after seeing how well his little Toyota held up after that I was convinced it would be the only truck for me
