    Hi guys,
I have a regular cab with a leer cap. I am about to build a nice sleeping platform and storage setup for it. I want to make it really nice and go the extra mile. One thing I am a little concerned about is doing all this work when it may not end up being comfortable at all. I really want to make this a nice camper and plan to use it a lot. (Planning a long road trip) The only issue is I am 6'4" so slightly taller than the bed is long. I am hoping with the platform I can just sleep at a slight angle and it will not be an issue. This will be a camping setup for two so I cant just sleep diagonally across the bed. Any thoughts on this? Anyone 6'2"+ spent a few nights in the bed? Any opinions would be really appreciated here. Oh, and yes I did lay in it to feel it out. I dont have the platform yet so it is a bit harder to get an idea of the angles with the wheel wells but it seems like it shouldn't be too bad that is why I am just wondering if it gets old after a few nights.

I'm 6'6'. Built a platform wit a 9" extension with the tailgate down. Wife and I had a 6 week trip around the country last spring/summer. No problems. With the tailgate up it was a bit short for me but that didn't happen too often. There's a thread with pictures of many different types of platforms. I bought a 12x15 tarp which went over the cap about 3' in from the back and extended down to the ground on both sides. With two 6' poles on the far end it made a nice rain cover/canopy.

Ok, perfect. I like that idea. I will do the same. So it sounds like you did have to do a few nights with the tailgate up? I am assuming I will too in cold climates. Were you able to make that work too? If you did at 6'6" I know Ill be fine.

Sweet, sounds like you and I are in the same boat. Camping is generally not super comfortable so being a little cramped but high and dry will probably still beat the old tent on the ground. Especially in bear country...

I'm running a similar set up as MSCOFF but in a short bed configuration. I leave the tailgate down and built a platform that folds down onto it. Works great. Spent multiple nights in it with little issues aside from the obvious, head room.
My friend made up a sort of tent to cover around the topper back glass and tailgate which helps guard against weather and bugs. I also bring a 10x10 foldable canopy for extra shelter. So far I've really liked this setup but if I'm going solo, I'd prefer a cot and sleeping pad. This gives me much more space to work with then...

I'm 6'2", I've slept diagonally in the bed on a platform. It's fine, the only thing was I kept banging my head on things, so I will bring a pillow next time to fill in the corner.

Still fishing for ideas for fitting two people though. Do I scrunch up and suffer, or figure out some kind of extension... I second-guess my choice of the SB sometimes, but the LB is just too rare and you can't get the OR package :(

    Regular cab here, 6'3

Just built a sleeping platform last weekend and took it out camping hours later. Easiest thing I've done, found one 2x8 board, 10feet in length. Cut to 57" exactly, both of em, fit snug. I did notch a 1x1" piece off the edges of each board to make em fit in the grooves. Not leveled with rest of bed frame but support was fine on 3/4" plywood.

Oh I'm losing my train of thought, but anyway, drank a bottle of jim beam and woke up at like 5am screaming and disoriented/still smashed because of charlie horses.

A little kink in the leg can be a disaster :p Too cold up in the mountains to leave tail gate down so I'll just scoot further towards front and be a little less drunk next time

Anyone over 6'0" want to consider a larger truck if they plan on using bed for sleeping. I'm 5'10" and consider my long bed barely long enough for me and I do use it for sleeping on
A regular basis. I recently owned an 8 ft bed Silverado which was ideal and strongly considered a 6'6" inch bed Silverado as its replacement. In the end I chose the Tacoma because other than sleeping comfort I no longer needed a truck the size of an extended bed Silverado an I bought a 4 cyl/manual trans truck. Plus Tacoma was $5K cheaper.

i found the bed short for sleeping at my 5'8" height, seemed cramped compared to a tent lengthwise. i did have the full size spare lying in there and my dog also so i wasn't sleeping at any angle.

i'm 6'4" also. i sleep in my truck allot while camping.
i don't have a platform, but i did buy an air mattress that fits around the wheel wells.
i sleep diagonally, and fit in it pretty well. not saying its my bed from home, but damn good for camping.
i am also planning on making a boot around the window of the cab and that way i can have the windows connecting the cab to the cap, for the use of the heater/ a.c. all with the push of the remote start button!
