I want to dechrome my grill and match it to my spruce. My two options are $200 at the cheapest for a new grill, or $30 to $60 depending on how many aerosol cans I buy from this ebay seller. Any experience with this, or even with this color code 6V4? Better place to get the paint? I can paint as good as any but just don't know....

Satoshi'd grill. blacked out badges. aftermarket sound system. De-chromed and color matched. OME 885s + Dakars with 3rd leaf removed. LR UCAs. Scs stealth 6 with 285 duratracs. BAMF sliders
I used duplicolor colormatch on my chrome grill. I doubt you will get a perfect march with spray cans, but you can get it close. I had a hard time getting my clearcoat to look decent with a spraycan

I guess it comes down to color. I wonder where I can get the BEST match for mine. I'll take a $30 gamble if I gain some more confidence in doing so.

Do a "color match grille" search. There are several threads that show how to do it along with the materials needed to get it done. Good luck.

I did my research and rather than reviving an old thread I used a new one looking for personal opinions on this color and this ebay seller's product. "The dumbest question is the one that goes unasked."

I just sprang for a production body shop to spray my grill when I Satoshi'd it. It matches factory, the painter accounted for weathering and getting any metallic to lay right it pretty difficult. Not to mention the work was guaranteed.

In short, if you are on a budget and close is ok, go rattle can. If you can spring it, body shop that grill.

I think you made a good choice. I rattlecanned mine, and i will probably buy a factory colormatched someday.

I used automotivetouchup.com when I painted eyelids. The color match was perfect. My painting skills weren't, but the color match was.

Try camelback toyota. I think they are a vendor on the site.
After thinking about this, i decided to give my grill another shot. Going to try automotivetouchup.com, duplicolor wasnt a great match, also going to try a 2k clearcoat in a can and see how it comes out.

If you can find a relaxed body shop you might be able to get it properly sprayed it for a case of beer. Worth a shot to just get a quote I know that place I work at had done grilles for like $100.

Thats what I used on mine. Scuffed up the chrome with a scotch brite pad, sprayed primer, sprayed a few coats of duplicolor silver, then sprayed duplicolor clear coat.

Its pretty close to perfect. I can notice a slight variation in color but people never notice even when told I spray painted it. But, my truck is not a show truck, most of the time its all muddy.
