Bush Wire

So, i did a light search and i couldnt find a single thing about Bush Cables or brush wires. im not entirely sure what they are even called. The cable you run from your front end to the roof of your truck to push away trees and branches from your hood and windshield.

How come i havnt seen a single taco with this mod yet? i was seriously considering this with the amount of brush i come across where i wheel.

on a google seach i read that they are illegal for daily drivers since they can cut open a pedestrian pretty good if you hit them. since most of the tacomas are DDs i suppose this is my answer?

 

Removable ones wouldn't be. Maybe someone has some info on that?

 

maybe something like aircraft cable and a spring? i was thinking about a tri hoop plate bumper so i could attach one eye there and then roof rack for another eyelet

 

I imagine it would need to be a bit more stiff than on a spring. Maybe something with a tension screw.

Still no tacomas with them though? the Turn buckles would be quite useful to have removable sets. My dad made an interested point, if i mount to a front plate bumper and to the top of my cab via a roof rack, would the body and frame move differently and cause the cable to snap? could cause more damage than any tree branch.

 

I like em, but have never seen em before.

Good point. Maybe the right cable selection is in order.

 

Theres flex in the bumpers, you can see that easily enough when the frame twists but if there were that much I don't think the doors would shut and you would have issues elsewhere. Should be enough stretch and strength in the components if you don't tighten them too much. All these other rigs would have similar problems as well. I don't think they have to be banjo tight either. Just my opinion.

 

Yep, their are usually referred to as limb risers. I ran them on my defender for years and loved them. There are a few good places that sell nice kits (especially if you check land rover specific expedition vendors), or they are pretty easy to make yourself. I have never found anything about them being illegal in the US for street use, and I took my defender to a few police and highway patrol events with no negative comments from numerous officers. This was also 8 or 10 years ago, but still, I never ran into any issue for 3+ years with the truck.

This is exactly what i was thinking for my truck. tri hoop bumper and roof rack with limb risers. unfortunately, i dont think ill be getting either until next year, if im lucky

 

Im trying to figure out how I can do this with only a single center hoop bumper. Thinking arms that extend up and from the corners. It would also be a good idea to run them along the sides to prevent scratching, from roof rack to sliders with something to give the cable some space off the cab. I live in a heavily wooded place and there's no branch free trails.

 

I just installed a roof rack on my truck, I was planning on running cables from the roof rack to a soon to be made bracket on the fender apron. My long term goal is to buy an ARB bumper and then just slap it onto that monstrosity
