Winter Driving

Ho does the truck do in snow on hillls with stock tires, does this truck need to be wieghted down (dbl cab). what should i expect living in the mts of jersey come this winter

 

With the dunflops not good. Put some good tires on there and engage 4x4 and you'll be hard pressed to find a hill you can't climb up.

 

In western upstate NY, I've never had a problem that wasn't driver induced and more or less deliberate, like tapping the gas going around a corner with an easily excitable girl in with me. And never had any trouble that 4wd wouldn't get me out of. Having gotten offroad this summer a bit, I'm excited to see what the winter'll bring.

This in an 07 accesscab, stock everything including tires. I've never consciously carried weight for traction reasons.

 

I watched my wife barrel through 12+ inches of fresh snow with the stock duelers in 4wd, surprisingly didn't even slow the damn thing down! Its always wise to get a good traction tire though.

 

Blizzaks, I'll never go back to all season's for winter, they're more like 3 season tires.

i live in saskatchewan and we get a really harsh winter and i had my stock rugged trails on for 2 weeks of snow and i would slide around everywhere i would definatly recommend michelin x-ice i have them on mine for winter tires and i like them but i have never tried the blizzaks and i hear they are very good to

 

the michelin x-ice is a good tire but you should try the blizzaks

 

I have a 2WD Tacoma DC, would you guys reccomenned running four snow tires or just two on the drive wheels? Wouldn't it be pointless to put them on the front?

 

The truck does awesome, I went through this much and even with the stock Dunflops:

 

You will still get additional traction for turning and stopping with them on the front as well.

 

I live in PA and don't get as much snow as most.....

But the stock duelers have been doing fine in the last two winters I had 'em.

I've always put 200lbs in the bed in all my trucks for better traction. This past winter, I didn't use any weight in the bed and the truck did just fine.

 

TRD sport with its even wider 17" H/T tires is an not a great setup for those who regularly experience snow & ice.

I run narrower 16" Blizzaks tires and 200lbs in the bed for winter. Changes everything. N NJ you get some snow, but not alot, hills in mix... Tough call. If your 2wd might be worth it to run winter tires, if 4wd, maybe a quality all-season tire would be best route.

btw if you went w/ snow tires, Tirerack.com has a sale on Blizzaks right now, $79 for 245/75 16's, never seen them that cheap.

 

my bfg mt's did alright but they were brand new, so this winter might be way worse. I get a really harsh winter too. i'm quite far north. almost to the point of 24hrs of daylight in the summer, we get it for a couple weeks up here.

 

hi! tig1 calling,winter driving calls for winter tires.i got the stock all season when i bought my truck in january and wished i had my canadian tire nordicks(i think i spelled it right) that i had on my jeep.
that's what i plan on driving on this winter.

Here's a couple from my driveway on 4/17/09... I had already cleared 12" earlier in the day, and the total accumulation ended up being 2'... I'm impressed with how my truck handles the snow. I put approx. 240lbs of tube sand in the bed, and have Big O Bigfoot AT's...

Too many posters are bragging about 'getting through' and nobody is talking about vehicle control or turning and stopping.
Get good all season tires, Michelin LTX M/S are the perfect compromise.
Small treadblocks and sipes get you through snow and ice, and the narrower, the better.
