Pioneer AVH-P3100DVD - Ebrake bypass

Hey guys,

does anyone have any details on how to bypass the ebrake on this HU? I have done some research and i'm not looking to install a toggle or anything...I've read it's as simple as grounding the ebrake wire, and also read to get a 4 wire relay...

any help would be appreciated as i'm installing my HU and speakers today!

4 wire relay is the cleanest solution. grounding the wire will not work

I know you say you are not looking to to the toggle switch, but it is the way I did it for mine. It was the cleanest and simplest option in my opinion. Just placed it in one of the unused blanks to the left of the steering wheel. It was pretty easy to just connect two wires, one to the deck and the other to a ground.

Bought the switch at Radio Shack for like $1.00 and used speaker wire for my grounding wire. Just cut the splice connector off the end of the Pioneer harness and put on a female blade connector to plug into the switch.

 

sounds pretty easy actually...i'm really hoping to not use a toggle, but in the end i might have too. I guess i'm going to install my HU without doing anything with the Ebrake wire at this point, unless i get some info on the relay by this afternoon...i can always change it this weekend i guess?

Yeah, you can always change it later. In fact, I was frustrated that I couldn't just ground the ebrake wire out and get it to work at first. I'd turn it on, ground the ebrake wire and it would work. Then I'd secure the ground, turn it on and it wouldn't work. Did that a half dozen times until I was annoyed.

So I buttoned it up for a week, until I got the toggle switch idea. Connected it that way and it worked like a charm... until it was stolen. But that is a different rant all together.

Is it worth $30? It isn't $30 worth of parts, but it is easy to install and requiures zero thought to get the desired result. I guess it depends on how much you value your time.

 

Thanks guys...i think i will do the install tonight, but without the ebrake bypass at this point. Maybe i'll buy the bypass in the link above or try to do it via relay on my own this weekend.

Wow! Great idea dude. I just finished hooking mine up and DVD works when I want it to...haha. Plus I filled in some blank button place holders. Thinking about rigging something like this on the backup cam function (once I find a decent cam) so I can flip on the cam whenever desired....any thoughts on that one???

 

i'd just hook up the camera to the aux video input- then when you want to use just change the input... or i believe there is a sensor wire for when you put the vehicle in reverse it changes over to the cam, just hook up that wire to a switch just like the parking brake bypass

 

how did you get that switch to fit in that space on the right side of your steering wheel? and what kind of dash kit did you use? its super clean!! nice work
