what quad would u recommend

as it says which would you recommend, ive had tons of snowmobiles for years, from the 440 fan upto a slightly modded 800, and everything inbetween, but time for some summer fun once i sell or trade my 03 rev, i had a 96 rmx250 last summer (me sitting on it in my profile pic), and that was well, wayyyy over my head for a complete 2/4 wheel newbie, so i got rid of it (mostly what got over my head was learning everything new to me at once, clutch, powerband that pulled like the freight train, and trying to balance it so i didnt trash the bike since she was so friggen mint) and i was trail riding and going up hills being way to easy on it so i didnt kill myself was worried to death about slipping to clutch too much.... so hence why im looking back and going, i should have just got a wheeler..... so with all the said, what type or model, or size would you guys say would be best??? im not against one with a clutch, kinda been looking around craigslist, and the few that i like are, the scrambler 400 2 banger/ 500 thumper, warrior, wolverine (the newer body style in like 05 or 06 with either the 350/450) or a sportsman 400/450/500

im going to be doing mostly trail riding, not using it to work with, so kinda want something sporty, but yet, be the equalivent to a mxz tnt 600 carb (for those not of the snowmobile world, a nice trail machine, that will run till the end of time, and then some, while not being ubber expensive) and to give a price range, hoping to get 3k for my sled seeing its got new everything inside the panels, so what wheeler even if its not listed, do you think id best???

 

Sportquad or utility 4x4 ?

I’d look at a honda or yamaha. they have some good 4 wheelers that are very reliable!!

Some other 4 wheelers are fast and all but IMHO not quite as reliable. (stuff will break, maybe even catch fire.

 

can ams are bad ass. fast as hell and are pretty reliable. if you take care of them.

I have talked to some people that have had problems, but they also said they never changed oil or anything like that. or cleaned air filters. ext, and thats when you going to have problems no madder what it is.

 

I had an arctic cat 650H1, and the fucking thing was a beast, wish i never sold it, but i never rode it

i love all three of my yamaha grizzly 660's and there is a reason i got two more after the first one... i have never heard of any one saying something bad about yamahas.

 

heck they don’t make the 660 any more. it’s now the 700. it’s a very good engine! it’s in our rhino.

 

400ex is the best trail quad ever built imo and is a great beginner ride. Has power right there when you need it, but not so much that will get you in trouble, they are very low maintenance and will just go go go with regular oil and filter changes. If you want even more CCs, Honda 700xx or Raptor 660 are good choices for trail quads as well. Avoid the 450s unless you are going to be racing, they do not like being lugged around on trails and demand to be opened up and ridden like a 2 stroke. Not to mention they are twice the maintenance than a 400ex, the Honda 450r manual recommends a new top end rebuild every 30 or 50 hours I believe.

 

yea i really wish i could get a 700 but my 660 is bored to 686cc and has power steering after market kit on it and cranks past my buddies 700. Mine is already faster than i need...

 

I got a 660 and I love it. Never had any problems EVER. I like that its not just a work machine like a garbage sportsman is.

jetted and tuned run it on 100 octane race fuel

all of this has been done in the last couple weeks and never rode it last year i am waiting on some stuff to come in and hopefully be riding it in a couple weeks again

 

ehhh hondas are boring. Yamaha has some good stuff. If you do the required maintenance and actually ride regularly you shouldn't have problems with most bikes.

If you are going utility quad OP Id get between 600-800cc. The new Polaris Scrambler looks pretty sick. As well as the Yamaha raptor

 

the yamaha raptors are bad ass and so fast they have a 700cc and it screams

I highly recommend can am outlanders. Iv had a 650 and now an 800, both have had no major issues. My 800 hauls ass even with a passenger and the 650 would outrun my buddies polaris outlaw 450

 

Here's mine 2010 Can am 800 XT-P V Twin bought it used from a female back in January 2012 for $5,500 with less than 50 hrs on it and less than 500 miles. It has close to 1600 miles on it now never had a problem with it. When you mash the throttle you better hang on cause it will haul ass. I believe it has 72 hp. It has a HMF Penland ehaust and a HMF Optimizer on it. It came with it. I also have Honda's can't go wrong with them either.
