Been a little up in the air about tire size for my lift and cant find much about people running 275's on here. Is there a particular reason? Would going with them help reduce possible rubbing that seems to be hit or miss with the 285's? I just figure that maybe it would be a good balance between looks and functionality. I've read that a few people think 285's ride a little rough, and other dont mind, I'd hate to spend all that money and realize I hate my tires. Right now the mickey thompson ATZ's in 275/70/R18 are looking pretty good, any nay sayers?

Just an update, I saw my first lifted tacoma on 285/70's in person today. Wow, the pictures on here don't do them any justice. They were pretty big. I think it confirmed that 285 is a little wide, just didn't like how much they stuck out. For a kind of follow up question, does anyone think that a set of 275's would look goofy on a 18x9 wheel? They don't make the ones I like in anything narrower.

That's what I'm kind of worried about. I love the moto metals and haven't seen anything else that comes close to them, only problem is, only 9" wide (I really don't want 16's). Now, just took about my 100th look at the ATZ specs of the MT site and foud this.

    275/70/18 - 33X11.50R18

    285/70/17 - 33X11.50R17

Am I missing something here?! Obviously the tire calculator displays the two as being slightly different in size
    [IMG]

So in this instance, keeping in mind that 9' is an approved rim size for this particular 275 tire, would they look bad? One of my main concerns is having them stick out too far, that's why I'm thinking about the 275's.

I've got 285/60/18's on mine with 3" of lift from toytec coilovers and they stick out too far for my liking. I've got a 1" block and a Toytec coilover in the rear. I was worried that 275/70/18's AT's would be too skinny for a 9" wide rim. Anyone know for sure? I'm def. gonna get that size next time if it'll fit. What Moto Metal's are u going with? Here's my 951's. First one is kinda showing how wide they are. haha I know I've gotta paint the grille to match!

These are with my 5100's set at 2.5" and just the AAL

Your wheels are killing it, not the tires. I like how they look beefy, but your wheels are a little too bling for my liking and i think they would look better with a milder wheel.

Honestly I completely agree with you on the bling. I just got a really good deal on these and figured they looked alright. I keep em dirty so they're not so bling most of the time. LOL I really do want 275's though cuz the 285's throw dirt all over the side of my truck.

How much do 9" rims stick out? I'm having trouble finding anything other than 17x9 and 18x9, plus the rims that I already like are 18x9.

i've got 275/70/18's and it sounds like they'd be perfect for you. I like them, but wish I'd gone wider. that's just me though. they don't look goofy to me.

i am looking at 275/70/18s --- but i think it is the BS on the wheel that makes it stick out, not really just width of the rim

Yeah, I did alot of reseach again today. I think I found a new wheel that I could accept other than the moto metal 955's (4.5 BS with, -12mm offset). They're the dale jr. cannan's in 18x9 with 5" BS and 0 offset. From what I understand that means they shouldn't stick out as much correct? Would that size rub with a 275 tire? If I'm right it should be close to an inch more into the wheel well right?

I've got 275/70/18 ATZ's on a RBP 18x10 wheel. I love the look and stance of the truck, but I did have rubbing issues on the body mount. I had to cut and plate it, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I absolutely love the ATZ's, by the way. Here's some older pics before the grille guard and off road lights:
