Hey TW, I just bought a KenwoodDDX-370 touch screen head unit, and the place wants $150 for installation on an '08 Base standard without steering wheel controls... Am being jipped? Also my friends dad is a mechanic and may be able to do it himself, or would it be best if I just paid $150? I also have a 10" kicker with an Alpha 600W amp.

What did you end up doing? A buddy gave me a Kenwood DDX6019 that i want to install, but not pay the shop for and was wondering if I just got a kit for twenty bucks and a wiring harness, if it was easy enough to try out. There's a lot of wires on it, so I am not sure. I may pony up and let the shop do it for me. They usually want a hundred bucks for an install.

Installing aftermarket radios is pretty easy. Like you said, just buy a Scosche or Metra dash kit and a wiring harness (Metra 70-1761). Then you just need wire strippers and crimp connectors + electrical tape (or most people on here recommend soldering and heat shrinking) . Take the wiring harness from your radio, and wire it to the wiring harness you bought (per instructions included with the harness) and then it's pretty much plug n play for the install. Removing our stock headunits is extremely easy as well - just search for the write-up on here.

i decided i wanted to have it professionally done and i didn't want to mess it up, so i went down to Car Sounds (Keller Tx) and he said he'd install it for $100 (the best deal i found out of 6 places) and last thursday the guy told me he ordered it, and the kit finally came in today, the problem was, they are open from 10-7 and i worked 10:30-6:30 today... so i just have to go and get it installed tomorrow because i dont work tomorrow! ill update you all on how it goes!

Sounds to me like the shop left the clock and hazards unplugged, need to take it back and say wtf, or take the trim kit off and plug them back in
