Spare Tire Tools "need help"

Bought truck and didn't have spare tire tools, thought it was easy to buy some but wasn't. Tried ordering from toyota overstock but was that a nightmare. waited forever, sent wrong tools, they didnt work, and werent the ones labeled on their website. asked for return and then took 20% from return.

Any suggestions on how to take off? dealer way too expensive and toyota overstock employees hard headed.

 

Buy a deep 3/4" or 19mm socket & a ratcheting breaker bar. Good for roadside security, too!
The truck still has a jack?

 

Have Farm jack. stock jack won't work anymore have 2.5 inch lift.

 

Still have the stock jack handle? My brothers truck didn't.

how long are these extensions and is that all you need to get the spare in and out? My older Hilux had the 'hook' arm like the stock tacos have but it actually grabbed into an eye bolt not just a slotted bolt like our trucks nw have.. i wonder why they changed that.

 

well i guess the ruler tells it all haha.. 2x 10" extensions, 1x 5" extension and the breaker bar

Yea that's all the tools I used. Finally got it off. Yea that's why I put the ruler there. Haha

 

Socket fits right over spare tire mount. came off fine but for more grip I was thinking of just adding a plastic bag over spare tire mount then put socket over it.

 

What are we looking at here? Are these tools to lower the spare tire?

 

Yup. the tools i took a pic of is all u need to take off/on spare tire. truck didnt come with any tools.

 

I guess I don't recall what the stock tool looks like, never had to use it . I'm not seeing how this will work to lower it. Will a 6-point socket work?

Just a note: 1-1/16" is the size of the LR UCA ball joint top nut. So some, like me, already have that socket in the tool box.

 

Don't have the stock tools. too expensive so came with a different way to lower the spare tire. the tools in the pic above is all you need to lower/raise the spare tire.

had to use a rag over spare tire housing and put socket over to raise. worked no problem

 

You could also try pick up a can of plastidip. Sure it won't last forever, but how often do you raise / lower your spare? That stuff is made for tool handles so i think it would work for a good bit of time.
