Fathers day fiasco

Thought I'd share how i spend fathers day morning...

Was down on the 101 by Cardiff State Beach and found this nice drainage ditch to burry my truck into. Ouch!!!

it took 3 AAA guys and a couple of hours, but they saved my truck with only minor damage to the skid plate. It was amazing to see how strong that plate was. The front end was basically siting on this concrete block.

I didn't see this ditch that was overgrown with grass so i happend to back into this thing.

 

how did you get there????

 

Shouldve called your local Tacoma crew! I wouldve yanked you out, I was in Encinitas that day

^+1 I so would have helped. That sucked. We could have had a bonding moment. My son would have been like... "Dad, why did he do that?" I'm glad it all worked out in the end. I should stay clear of that area when I'm close by. Haha.

Glad everyone is ok and you escaped with minor damage. Why did it take so long to get you out? Looks to have been an easy one. But thats just looking at the pics.

 

Ouch...glad there was no other damage to the truck. A Dakota may have fallen apart with a hit like that!

I saw a cop car that did exactly the same thing last week. He had his back left wheel about 2' off the ground and was buried in a similar looking drainage ditch. Drove by too fast to get a picture but I was laughing at his expense.

I'm sure you'll look back and laugh too. Just another story to tell!

 

Sorry your father's day sucked, but its good that you had only minimal damage.

In the end i took away the following:
Don't panic: When I first got stuck I automatically threw it into 4-wheel assuming it was just spining on dirt (reality my rear wheel was probably hanging off the edge). Still stuck. I then proceeded to lock my diff thinking hey cool I got all these tools why not use them. It did help get me unstuck but somehow put me in the drainage ditch as you can see.

Lesson learned 1: When stuck get out assess the situation then take action.

Lesson learned 2: Need to laugh at yourself sometimes for doing stoopid things like this. Although this was super embarrassing, I have to laugh in the end (easier done since there wasn't much damage)

Lesson learned 3: People on this forum are a truely supportive group

Lesson Learned 4: Having AAA has more then paid for itself

Lesson learned 5: Having 4-wheel and locking diff sometimes just isn't enough
