I compare Toyota's to Honda ATVs. Many of their models go with out change because they work! They hold a platform +5's years before they do another redesign when most brands are updating. They are the most reliable in the industry meaning people know they are getting their moneys worth. This is why I bought my 2013 Tacoma and many others continue to do the same.

Until there's real competition they have no pressing need to. Doesn't mean they shouldn't though. The only viable competitor is the Frontier and that equally outdated.

The tried and true reliable formula won't work if someone else brings something new and competitive to the segment.

this couldn't have been said any better.
my whole family are all honda riders. it's all i'd race. we'd beat the snot out of our quads and they'd be running fine but we've pulled broken other quads of every brand out of the mountains. honda just have the atv's down pat.

my buddy yesterday was talking about a mutual friend who loves jeeps but isn't mechanically smart and doesn't take care of it properly. my buddy told him to get a toyota because they can handle the most abuse before giving. they are the "maintenance free brand"

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
    Top three reasons (IMO):

A: Majority of automobile competition (and money) is in the car segment, especially the hybrids.
B: No direct competition in the small/mid size truck segment (sales figures are dominated by Toyota)
C: Toyota had a major hault on production and R&D due to the Tsunami and is still recouping.

I thought about one but have no desire to get a 5 banger. Just something about an off balance engine. That plus Tacoma beats it hands down on resale and reliability.
