I sold my 96 SR5 4x4 and now looking at an 01 ext cab SR5 with 177k miles. I have a buddy who is a dealer and found this truck at an auction and picked it up. He said its mine if I want it. It is a 2 owner truck, has never had any accidents or any other damage reported to carfax and has all tons of toyota and personal maintenance records. Guy kept a log for all oil changes in his glove box. And has had all scheduled maintenance done by toyota dealers. It has power everything except seats, cruise, 5 speed, 4x4 camper top, new tires, and not a scratch on the thing! He said I could have it for 8k plus taxes but could possibly do even a little better. What do you guys think?

Whoa.. What are the specs on the DC? For only $500 more you could have 4doors!

Basically the same truck but double cab and doesn't have a camper top and doesn't have all the records. It is also a 2 owner truck. It would take about everything in my bank to get the double cab. Not sure I feel comfy doing that, even though I would love having the 4 doors. We will see

I hear ya on wiping out your funds, but having owned an extra cab and then a DC I will tell ya that I am much happier with the DC!! The extra cab space is fantastic and I don't really need the bigger bed. Having a shell is great though and knowing the records is even better.. Re-sale for the DC will be better too (if u ever sell haha)

You got two good choices in front of you! Good luck!!

The xtracab is a 5 speed and has maintainence records... no brainer to me.

That eliminates the whole "ok I got my truck now I gotta catch it up on everything that was neglected" step after the initial thrill of a new truck wears off

My thoughts exactly. And I think they will do the Ext cab for $8000 out the door so I would be into it fot $8060 after registering it and with the DC I would pay $8500 and then another $660 in taxes and registration.

    I appreciate the input guys

Well looks like the Ext would be $8000 plus $1000 for taxes and fees. Still a good deal at 9k? I also learned that it is a TRD not an SR5

If the truck is 8000 tax title and fees shouldnt be a 1000. My truck was 11,000 and I paid tax title and license today, it was only $792.

The dealership my buddy works for has a non negotiable 399 dealer fee. thats why its high. so its $8000+$399+7.5% of 8k=about 9k

How many miles on the DC? Is it TRD 4x4 as well? Where i'm from that's a really good deal for a double cab. If it were me i'd really try to find a way to get it, assuming there's minimal rust and in good shape.

Yes, the Ext. cab got back from my buddy's dealer inspection and they are going to do all the fluids, new brakes and rotate the tires and after that I could buy it fo $8400 including the dealer fees and all. I finally got pictures of the dbl cab inside and all and it doesn't look terrible but pretty dirty in the engine bay and what not. The ext cab was definitely taken awesome care of the and the dbl cab looks nice but not quite are primo. I can get the dbl cab for $8500 so right now, I am pretty torn being that they would cost about the same. Would like to give my buddy the business and I know its going to be in amazing shape, and then the dbl cab would be what I wanted if my friend was removed from the deal and I didn't know the ext cab was taken great care of.
