I have ordered 5100 all around for my 2006 Tacoma, Access Cab, V-6. I am puzzled by all the references on the forum about 885, 886, etc. I understand these are different strength coils, which are fitted over the shocks.

I am planning on using my stock coils with the new 5100s and am only looking for about more leveling effect.
So, what are my stock coils ?? 885s? 884?
Also, in order to level the truck which spring perch setting should I use? 0? .85 ?

    Any help would greatly appreciated.

and the only differences that I know of between factory Toyota coils are that the off-roads have a progressive-rate coil. all the others are a linear rate.

from what I hear, the off-road coils are not great with the preload you can add with the 5100s. you end up taking away all the soft travel and leaving only the harsh spring rates usually associated with being close to bottoming out on a stock truck.

but no matter what, you end up encountering stiffer ride at some point in the spring's stroke when you preload. with a linear-rate spring, if you only bump it up .85", then you will only encounter a harsher-than-normal ride in the last .85" of stroke, which is easily endurable to all of us.

back to the progressive-rate from the off-road, I have no idea when the ride will suffer as it would depend on spring design

What OME springs are be best suited for the Access cab, 4x4, Sport. My 5100s are on the way from Down South !!!

Satoshi'd grill. blacked out badges. aftermarket sound system. De-chromed and color matched. OME 885s + Dakars with 3rd leaf removed. LR UCAs. Scs stealth 6 with 285 duratracs. BAMF sliders
Depends how much lift you want. I have 885s on my access cab and got 2.5-2.75" of lift. You said you wanted more of a level lift, without doing anything to the rear 883s might be a good choice for the front. But you still may be nose high depending on how high the back of your truck sits.

It would seem that majority of folks use the 885's, unless they have additional equipment on the front, I.e. Bumpers with winches.

Thanks for the info ! :)

885s on an AC will yield close to 3" of front lift.

i'd just set the 5100's at .85" with the stock coils and call it a day

That would be because the more common lift is a 3" lift. If you don't want that much lift, plenty of people have used 884 and 883 coils. 883, 884 and 885 coils are all the same strength, they just get longer as the number increases (885's are 10 mm longer than 884's which are 10mm longer than 883's). 886's should only be used if you have a lot of extra weight up front.

Eibach coils are another option for your 5100's, they will put you at about 1.6" of lift for a 4x4 double cab.

That sounds like a plan too ! I have a set of OME coils in the garage, that I purchased years ago, before I went to Iraq, but I do not know what rating they are (884?), but putting the stock coils back on would also work.

Will try to get my install going on Saturday !

    Thanks again !;)

5100's all around w/ 1.75" front. 1.5" Toytec AAL ARE shell with roof rack. Weathertech vent-visors and floormats 20% tint on front. Black and charcol wet okole's VLED V3 Triton DTRL's/turn signals. ECGS bushing
If you have the 4 leaf post tsb springs in the back i'd set your 5100's at 1.75" with stock coils. It put mine perfectly level.

my truck sits on 884's at zero with the wheelers 3 leaf aal in the rear (1 1/2"-2") and sits pretty level
    [IMG]

if you want new coils without upgrading the rear I would suggest eibachs or 883's. I went with 884's as that's about as high as I could go without new uca's.
