I understand completely your points Jan. The thing with the thread last night was that it was posted in the wrong section, and the mods tidied it up by moving it to the correct section. It wasn't because it was offensive or anything, just keeping the site in order. The OP ended up freaking out and leaving.

Personally in that situation I don't think a PM is necessary. It was clear why to move took place and there was no reason to flip out

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Don't forget it was intentionally placed in the wrong section for "exposure". Mr. 62%.

You don't think it was necessary - but do you think the OP might have appreciatted one? If he did get one, would he have avoided making other posts about it?

Maybe so, maybe not. It could've changed the overall reaction to the entire situation.

    More valid points!

Either way I don't miss someone that invests that much emotion into a meaningless thread that he has to leave.

Sounds harsh, but as stephen king puts it

    True....

But remember, this forum has a repuation for being friendly, respectful, and fun.

Being harsh goes againest the reputation the forum has already built up over the years.

Some times I send messages some times I don't. Some times I have more time than others. If I see a post that violates one of the well known TW rules, I edit it or delete it and I do not send a message. For instance, someone posted about street racing-I edited the post, but I didn't send him a message.

I never PM people when I move a thread, however, I always leave a redirect for them. I move threads all the time. I've moved hundreds of threads and have only gotten 1 or 2 complaints. I would rather deal with .5% of pissy people than send out 100% of the messages every time I move a thread.

My thoughts are this, everyone knows (or should know) that there are no personal attacks, no political threads, no street racing, no rick rolling, and that there are different sections for a reason. That should be enough notice to people that the moderators are going to do their best to adhere to these guidelines.

All good points. I think we all have to remember that any kind of communication carries responsibilities on both ends and with there being so many members, there are many different personalities. The "poster" has the responsibility to take into mind how their post maybe offensive, or violating guidelines as the "reader" does to realize what they are reading may not have been intended as some kind of attack (Empathy). The moderators obviously have a difficult task. "Can't please All the people All the time." I've been warmly welcomed here for less than a month now by nothing but pleasant & helpful members and moderators and am grateful for this site. I would hope a certain amount of etiquette and common sense remains.:)
