New Tires and wheels on the Civic

So my buddy GAVE me his tires and wheels from his old integra last night. I put them on tonight. The tires are Proxes, profiles, forget what size, but they're on Maxxim wheels (Konig company). So moving along, I get them on, my lug nuts barely fit, I actually had an oddball that I had to leave off because it didn't fit in the new rims, yes I know its not safe, but I"ll live for a day, I only drive about a mile to work.

Okay, so its a 93 civic with these new wheels, this thing looks straight rice right now. Whatever. Its free. I start driving it down the road and holy shit do these tires HOWLLLLLLL. They're louder than my BFG KM2's. I can't believe it.

Now, I'm trying to reason WHY they're howling. I think I know, but I need someone to throw me a bone. He gave me some 'inserts' that go inside the hub before it mounts onto the wheel. They things look and feel like plastic, hard to tell. They fit kinda loose, so I decided since he could only find 3 of them, to just leave them out overall. The didn't seem to have any effect on the mounting. I'm wondering if these inserts are supposed to be in there to prevent the howling because inside the hub of the wheel is hollow without those inserts. Makes sense to me, but does anyone have experience with this?

Makes sense but reverse that. The inserts go on the INBOARD side of the wheel. The outboard side isn't open and exposed. Plus the sound begins at about 35, ends at about 45. The hollow is on the inside. Soda bottle theory is a no.

 

Yeah, it got dark tonight and I'm out of energy. I'm going to get new lug nuts before I do it. These ones are toast. Kinda cool to hear it howl, but it will get annoying eventually. Since I only have 3 of them, I'll probably stuff the remaining with a wad of paper

 

No vibes like that. Tires are stiff, so I feel every little bit of the pavement at slow speeds up to about 10mph. I could probably retorque them, but I'm not going to go much higher. No torque wrench here, but I'm a good guess after years of experience with them. I think I just gotta throw those inserts in there and see what happens.
