I heard that just the mic speaker wasn't always loud enough.

 

This was yesterdays project... I'm definitely thinking a different antenna though!

its not the loudest ive had, but i think its plenty loud. its not like you need to blast it either.

 

Just looking at the pics, it looks like that K4 mount is the ring style mount and your cable appears to be the

pl259 connector on both ends, although I can't see that pic real well. Just throwing that out there though. Also I have external speakers on mine, but mine is in the center console and I didn't like to have to leave the console open (no mic speaker) to hear people and I had an extra pair of computer speakers laying around so I hooked them up.

I've heard tire shine is not good for your tires, just heard, so I don't actually know if there is any credibility to that though. haha


Hey Mike, thanks for the offer, but I think I will pass on it if you were having tuning issues with it. Mine seemed to be hard enough to hear people as it was. Maybe that firestik will make it better, but for now I think I will just go to a 5 ft firestik with a spring mount.

 

Does anyone know if signal amplifiers actually help much?

 

I just have like 5 of those too haha....

NO!!!! Don't get a 5' unless you get a super heavy duty spring go with a 4' firefly if you can

pl259 stuff. I was told the pl259 is the connector that works with Uniden 520xl. I'm assuming the K4 mount is for K4 connectors?

I was going to get a 3', but everybody is recommending a 4' so I'm getting a 4' Fireflly.

The K4 is the name of your antenna mount (they are called studs). The

PL259 connector is what connects to the back of the cb but there are two kinds of studs, ring mount and pl259 mount (i don't know what they are officially called). One uses a ring that is held in place and the other uses the same pl259 connector to connect to the stud. I think monte has a ring mount style. I went with the pl259 style.

 

So it doesn't necessarily matter then?

 

You cable just has to match your stud.

Notice how my cable just threads onto that stud just like it will on the back of the cb.


Google ring mount cb stud or something to see what a ring mount looks like. I'm on my phone or I would post one here.

I don't know if that style or ring mount is better or if one even is better, just wanted to make sure you were aware of the two different stud types so you got the matching cable and stud.

One way to look at it is a ring mount style mounts the cable 90* to the stud so you wouldn't need an elbow there. In my case I didn't want a 90* angle there I wanted it straight. So it will depend on how you mount the antenna really.
