Instead of plasti dipping the whole grill, i decided to keep the toyota symbol chrome to match the headlights and fog lights

    Steps:
    1.) remove the grill
2.) undo plastic inserts for valence and remove
3.) clean both items with windex
4.) spray first coat, wait 20 minutes, then repeat for 4 coats with 20 minutes in between
    5.) reinstall

Seems like more trouble than is necessary. Couldn't you have just dipped the grill without removing it?

You can remove the grill in less than a minute.

The grille is quick and easy, but I also have wondered about the valence, as I replaced my chrome grille with a black one and the gray color of the valance really sticks out now.

It's the grille surround that needed the derp.

My question is about the valance. How difficult is it to remove?

The grill comes out in less then a minute, then the Toyota symbol simple unclips from the grill, I was expecting it to be hard but it wasn't

As for the valence, there's about 5 clips that are easy to undo on the top, it's a simple push the plastic clip downward and slide it through, same with the bottom, push down on the part that's holding it in and slide trough.

Then there's 2 clips on the side that are a little tricky, it's a blue clip that goes through the plastic to secure it, just use a screw driver to press the clip in then slide up trough the whole,

Once all clips are out and it "seems" free, just tug, it sounds like something's snaps because I think there may have been a permanent clip on either side but no plastic fell off and I couldn't find any breaks.

Just look for the obvious clips on the top and bottom

The two other ones are on the side of the actual metal frame

What are the steps to taking the grill off? I did mine last week on the vehicle, but might just paint the chrome later for a more permanent solution

Open up the hood and on the top of the grill there are 4 secures, 2 bolts, and 2 of those plastic clips you undo with a flat head screwdriver.

once theyre done, there are some plastic clips on the grill that are snapped into place, just push them down one by one and nudge the grill outwards toward you, its pretty simple.

Looks great OP! Lower valence looks way better painted black vs. "plastic" grey

I went a different route. I didn't use Derp on my grille. I used this instead as it is permanent and matches the lower valance perfectly.

    Grill removed

    Taped, sanded, and primed

Ended up painting the entire grill so it would match

I like what you did... Especially with the TRD emblem. The only reason why I derpes mine was because I like the idea that if I scratch or dent it... I can either clean and add a couple new coats and the blemish is gone... Or peel it off and redo.

So basically always being able to keep it clean and nice finish without the hassle of prime/paint

I ended up derping the under headlight lids black... And also the plastic piece that's apart of the headlight design black

    Thanks!

Since mine is a matte finish I can basically do the same thing. In fact I had a few nicks I had to touch up when we got back from our trip. Just lightly sanded then lightly sprayed the grill again and you can't even tell there was ever a nick.
