Like the last poster, I hardly noticed a difference.
Maybe 19 down to 18. That's not accounting for the difference in circumference however.

According to the tire calculator, if I went from 265/70/16 to 285/75/16 I'm travelling 7.3% farther than my odometer indicates.
So 18 x 1.073 = 19.314 I would contend that the switch didn't cost me anything in terms of mpgs, or if it did it's negligible.

Mods. Bumpers, armor, wheels, tires, racks, RTT's on and on. They all factor in and we are all different.

Initially I lost 1 mpg going from 18.5 to 17.5 with the lift and 285's. I'm down now to 17.2 avg cause I do tend to accelerate a bit harder now and cruise around 75-80. I also have rock sliders and a bed rack mounted on the truck. That is with it calibrated for the tires.

I also don't really care so much about the mpg as I like the 285's and their performance.

Thank you. My thinking was, although average mpg varies widely due to multiple things. Any drop caused by the larger tire. Is simply due to that tire. Thus the drop should be relatively consistent Ish between different drivers/trucks.

There's also the weight of different brands of 285's. The weights of different wheels. Lots of variables.

did the same thing. and after calculating in the tire size for odo being off I'm averaging .5-1 mpg less than the stock size rugged fails. more of a mpg drop came from all the steel added and nice flat wind block that is my skid plate. the blower makes it all so fun that you don't even notice the continuous drops in mpg each time the truck gets a new mod :burnrubber: down to 15-16 or so on average, 8 if i'm towing my trailer

I will stick with 265s since it is easier on my wallet and if your truck is your daily driver then 265s make sense to me and going 285s you actually lose traction in snow

I know. The odometer still registers six tenths of a mile per gallon less with the larger tires.

Get tires suited for the terrain you expect to be driving in. The proper tread is more important than tire size inmy opinion. Of course a taller tire with the same "better tread" may be better still in off road situation. My solution (my compromise) was 265/75R16 DuraTracs.

Surely the gas light doesn't come on a full 5 gallons before the tank empties? That's about 100 miles to empty...I thought the gas light comes on approximately 50 miles before empty?

Our tanks are 21.1 though. He is saying light at 16 gallons.

It doesn't really matter , miles travelled divided by gas needed to refill

How about switching same size tire from stock to MT?

    Has anyone compared this?

I went from 265/65/17 stockers to 265/70/17 Hankook MT's and didn't notice a difference in fuel economy
