    Just purchased 07' Taco.

Want to see what others are doing to carry few motorcycles in back.

Don't want to dent bed with front tires.

Also not sure how much I trust these factory sliding hooks?

For some reason my truck does not have bed mounted tie downs in front- just holes where they should be? wtf?

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

Ideally would like to haul 3 small motorcycles securely.

    Thanks

Include pics in response if possible

I can haul 2 full sized dirt bikes in my 2006 double cab short bed. I wouldnt trust the bed rail clips cause they arent the strongest. I added D-rings to mine and they work like a champ!!

Haha yup dirt bikes!!! We actually turn the two front wheels inward so they face each other and that saves a little more room for the rear of the tailgate.

Oh those bikes should be okay to load.
Extra D-rings are the ones you have that are only on the back of the truck by the tailgate but with this easy mod you can add 4 more so that will give you 6 points to tie something down cause like I said, the stock bed rail cleats arent very strong.

D-rings you can probably get anywhere online. I got mine from an army surplus store. Try and google it and I bet you can find some. Here is the same link that was on the DIY write-up. You get 5 for $6.50 so pretty darn cheap!

I think with 2, you'll be ok with the Taco, but fitting 3 might be a stretch. I've put 3 full size dirt bikes in the back of a F150 before, one on each side facing forward, and one put in backwards in the middle. Looking at the pics above, you might be able to squeeze three in the Taco if they're small enough.

I have carried three Honda 250s in mine, it was a PITA to get them in a secured, wouldn't want to do that again.

Also haul around a 2009 BMW 650GS, fits no problem and the weight isn't an issue. It's about 450+ lbs.

Yeah I was going to say that 3 is really pushing it in either a 1st or 2nd gen so I wouldnt load more then 2 at a time.

Two would be 400cc, the third is 100cc, maybe squeeze it right in the middle.

    Anyone use wheels chocks?

Regarding D-Rings: You can get the OEM ones from Toyota or you can grab D-Rings from you local Dodge dealer for a lot cheaper and put them thru the bed bolt. Full write up: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/28533-installed-d-rings-bed-pics-8.html#post4383957

You can also check out my write-up for an alternative location for the OEM D-Rings: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/246978-alternative-location-d-rings-bed.html

Since you'll be loading/unloading and making extensive use of your tailgate, you may want to look at reenforcing your tailgate as the '05-'08 tailgates are 'weak.' You're out of warranty for TSB BO018-07 so for a stronger tailgate you would either need to pay out of pocket, find an aftermarket or go to a salvage yard and buy the tailgate off an '09+ tacoma.

I put these on my truck to help tie down my dirt bikes. I hate dealing with D hooks in the bed. I liked these best because they stainless steel and powder coated. They come complete with nice aluminum tee nuts.

I've done three bikes in the back of my first gen no problem. Two facing forward and the middle one facing back. Get yourself some extra d-rings and you'll be fine.
