    Hahaha

When it comes to moving parts, I hate to use something more than I absolutely need to in fear of "wearing them out" Like the glove box handle or switches on the dash or the power window switches or worse, the auto folding oh shit handles in our sportwagon that people play with!! Weird I know...

I don't think it would negatively affect the transmission itself, look at tiptronic vehicles. My Sportwagon is tiptronic and I can shift where I'd like.

What about the feel of your auto in and out of drive or any gear, did it feel sloppy or loose? Not the shift points but the gear selected lever.

Uh, lol...how do you miss a shift on an automatic? Besides that the computer will not let you screw anything up.

I downshift all the time (My primary highway seems to keep growing a new stoplight every year)

Normally I just slap it into 2nd and let the computer slow me down.

I do tend to avoid slapshifting into 1st, I'm sure the tranny will be fine, but I'm worried about the wear and tear on the seatbelt.

The only difference according to A750 hydraulic powerflow is the B4 brake inside the rear of the transmission being applied in selection 1 on the shifter and when you put the shifter in S2 , the B2 brake is applied
This means that in manual first gear and manual 2nd gear, there is one extra clutch applied in comparison to regular drive range . The end result , more holding power , higher hydraulic pressure and less possibilty of a slipping transmission when downshifting and upshifting when using the manual selection of your shifter

Actually harder, faster shifts into a gear are better for an automatic. The smooth shifting is made for comfort, not durability or longevity. (Although the Toyota automatics are dang near bulletproof)

I shift from 5 down to 3 and back up when there isn't alot of traffic. I don't really shift down to 2 unless I am trying to hypermill the one and only traffic light on my commute where its achiveable, otherwise I let the autoshift take care of it to avoid unnecessary wear. I also shift to N when going down hill to avoid having to accelerate downhill for obvious reasons.

When doing a traffic light launch from stop, I let the auto take care of shifting since it probably shifts at the optimal points better than I can slip the stick through the gate.

I'm just glad the shifter is located in the center, unlike a stupid chevy with some loose shifter on the steering column!

I don't know how it works on the newer vehicles, simply because I buy an automatic to shift, uh, you know automatically, so I don't fuck with the shifter much. But older cars were easy to miss shifts on simply because the gear selector points were worn in and less "notchy".

That's why if you drag raced with an automatic you got a full manual valve body with either a forward or reverse pattern. It was way too easy to miss a shift otherwise and slam that bitch into neutral, reverse or worse yet park.

Personally I don't care if anyone desires to manually shift an automatic. It's your vehicle. Can't see the logic in it though.

So... You're saying brakes are cheaper and to buy a manual???

You're shift key and exclamation key stuck OZ?

I don't want to shift my truck that's why I have a auto and because my wife cant drive manual. Ive always had manual cars but never had the desire in a truck. I drove a 4.0L manual when I bought my first Tacoma but I didn't like it. I'm just curious if there is any issues from occasional shifting. Like I said, not worried about actual transmission trouble as I am wearing out my gear selector positions or the linkage. Stuff like that. i think the transmission would be fine because it shifts when its in D rigt? i'm not a mechanic or farmiliar with all the moving parts, hence my question.

1st is Lllllooooooowwww. Anything more than 40km/h and you'll be thrown forward and the truck will nose dive like a motherfucker. 35kph is best, and even then it lugs. You really have to be good with the brake to do it smoothly.

No wonder my truck loves me..

Nope. It shifts too soon and drops you out of the power band far too early.

Depends on conditions. I drive 90% of the time in 4th - and only put the truck in 5th when on the freeway, going speeds over 60mph.

When descending hills, I downshift and let the motor slow me down.

Beyond that, I don't see much advantage to shifting the automatic too much, unless you like to increase wear on components. like many have said, brake pads are cheap, transmissions are expensive.
