I bought a 2013 Tacoma TRD sport, DC last feb, i just took it in for the 10,000 mile oil change and asked the techs to drive it because it was making some loud clanking noises when under load and going up hill. Meanwhile, I drove two other brand new, exact same trucks on the lot..the engine was so much more quiet than mine, they shifted better and just felt all over better. The 4 different people that drove it had no clue what it was, but all of them said they see this one being an issue in the future. The dealer was able basically do a one for one swap for another exact same truck, different color.

It was not the toyota tick...i understand that issue. I never towed more than a sport bike with it, and that was only 20 miles. I never took it off road or beat on it. I bought it because I wanted to have a truck with minimal issues for 200,000 miles..lol..so much for that...has anyone else had issues like this or did i just get the one they let the "slow" mechanic assemble? lol This is my first Tacoma, and I am assuming they are not like this normally.

ive never heard of that, but i like youre hypothesis of a "slow mechanic".lol
typically the 4.0 v6 engines are worry free.
to be clear, you WERE able to get your truck swapped?

it wasn't a complete swap, but i really only financed 15,000 for the new one and i financed 14,000 for my first one, so i basically drove it for 1000 dollars is how i look at it. I did have the option to let them fix it, but for my peace of mind, i opted to let them have it and start over...it raised my payments 26 dollars a month..the dealership was really good to me in the situation, i feel.

For all they know I could have tried to tow a space ship!!! lol

Never heard of that happening before, but that's why they have warranties. Glad you got it worked out and glad the dealer did the right thing. Sounds like a fair deal to me.

It's always an odds game when it comes to vehicles. Just some vehicles have better odds then others. The Tacoma definitely has "good" odds.

I remember the first car my wife and I bought from a rental dealership. 94 Ford Tempo. It was used and abused but never had a problem with it. Everyone that I knew had something wrong with theirs. Usually an electrical problem. Ours was really perfect.

That's awesome you were able to get into a different one! Good luck to you.
