So i tried installing 2 more D Rings at the top of my bed and was unsuccessful. Well one i couldnt get the bolt loose. The previous owner had the bed sprayed with LineX, including the bed bolts. Well i stripped all the LineX off and i used a T55 and an air gun and it still wouldnt break loose. The i looked at the D Rings i got from the Dealership and the Bolts for the D Rings were somewhat short, which i dont think theyre long enough to replace the bed bolts. And the directions for the bed bolts said that they are meant to be installed on the sides of the bed....ive never seen tht done before so idk. But any input will help, not sure if i got the wrong part or what. So if u guys with the D Ring install could chime in tht would help. Thanks in advance.

Pics will help. I just installed some OEM D rings on my rig last week. Worked like a charm. Impact Hammer and a bastard file and it was back together ready to rock.

You got a "kit" from toyota, with a d-ring, a bolt and a backing plate? Those are designed to be mounted on the side of the bed. You should have directions on where to mount it.

Most of us, just take out a bed bolt and put it under the head, and put the bed bolt back in.

If you do a search, there are some pics that show them mounted where they are designed to be mounted.

Would PB Blaster be harmful to the Linex? Maybe try shooting some under the bed

Did you get all the Linex off around the washer?

I've got a couple of ideas, but they all will require the bolt to be replaced.

Susan is right; when I bought extra D-rings, I just threw the backing plate, etc that came with it in my garage. Then just used the stock bed bolt in conjunction with the new D-ring.

You can get to the bolts from under the bed if you want to try spraying some PB Blaster or WD-40 under there.

Looking at the rust on that bolt, don't know that spraying from only the bottom will work :notsure: Will the bp blaster go up the threads?

I only mentioned that specifically if he wanted to just soak the thing from the top and bottom to see if it would help...the head of the bolt looks kind of stripped to me though so that fucker might be in there good.

Yeah, I noticed the head looking boogered up. That'd be about the only way to get it out

Use a breaker bar only after you spray some penetrant on the bolts and let it sit.

The only other thing I could think of is putting a pair of vise grips sideways on the bolt then trying a breaker bar of the handles of the vise grips (if the head is stripped) or just put the breaker bar over the T55 socket wrench if the head is still intact.

But, if you couldn't get it out with an air gun, I doubt the above would work.

Kind of SOL, I would say.
