Just wondering about the US model of the Tacoma. I have a 2008 Tacoma Quad Cab 4x4 SR5 and am considering a new Tacoma with the 6 Speed. The dilemma is here in Canada we can only get a 6 Speed with a 5' box, Auto only comes with a 6' box. I really want a 6 Speed with a 6' box for camping, I take a lot of gear.

Is a Tacoma 4x4 quadcab available in the US with 6 Speed and 6' box. Not interested in looking at the Toyota USA website, it sucks. Looking to here from owners.

I'm hoping to not have to buy a new truck cap.

    Build thread coming soon!
If you want a 6 speed and a 6' box, access cab is the only way. Toyota has never made a dclb manual, regardless of what people advertise. If Toyota did, that's what I would've bought.
If you've seen one, someone built it

Having owned both an automatic and now a manual, I'd get the auto again. Then the box problem is solved too. Just my 2 cents.

I really wanted the 6 speed as it would be better for towing, my trailer may be small, the auto is always searching for gears or chugging up a hill.9unenu4e_779a19280340b45e965f256c593dfd0fef2b47f0.jpg

x2 having owned both im happier with my auto. Not that the manual is not a good tranny, but the clutch pedal sucked, and i also noticed that the automatics seem to make larger tires less noticeable when it comes to power. FWIW..

    Re: chugging, searching.

Do the same thing you would do with the manual and select the proper gear yourself.

Americans don't like stick shift trucks or any thing that involves a little more work like lock out hubs. I can tow my camper all day long on the highway in 6th.

Why do you think you would need 33"s? I have 31.6" as big as you can put on, they rub after mudflap trimming.

I do want to take a trip from the Toronto area where we live to Seattle up into BC , into Alberta, and back home, was wondering about the Rockies. I didn't want to hit 10 MPG and struggle on mountain passes.

Maybe you can swap one into your truck. I'll trade you.

You probably will be in the 10 -12 mpg range through the mountain passes, but that won't change with a manual tranny. I like my 6spd, but I get the impression you are thinking to trade the truck with this trip as the main reason? If thats true, keep the '08, downshift your auto to 4th or 3rd as necessary on the hills (downhill too, for engine braking!) You'll probably get better overall milage with the auto anyway, the OD is higher, and you'll cruise fine in OD through the prairies.

Fwiw I have a manual, but the 2.7L. I got banned once (relative to the time of chatting w a mod) for similar comment.

I recognize our countries lust for anything that might be lazier/easier, I don't view the automatic that way at face value.
Then again not 1 friend in town ever wants to borrow my trucks when a manual is involved, literally getting mad as to why I would even buy a manual, also coffee spills and bed dents from them went to zero.

Coming from a 6 speed owner.

Don't buy a 6 speed. The Auto is better.
