Anyone ever think to create retro stripes on a Tacoma using plastidip.I think it would look pretty good.Anyone done it?

Good luck with that. It's tough to mask Plasti-dip and have it come out nice. You have to spray down several layers very quick and remove the tape before it dries. If you want the look I would suggest some vinyl decals.

It would be black on silver so I don't think too many layers are needed.

You can give it a go, it's only derp. It is a little tricky though. You will need at least 3 heavy coats for coverage. Maybe watch some of the videos of masking on youtube before you do it.

I did my emblems, badges, hood scoop, front bumper valance, gas cap, and skid plate in plasti dip and the results were amazing. Mine is silver as well and i can tell you 3 coats will not do.. you don't want to spray it too thick because it can build up and give an uneven coat, it's much easier to do more light coats. By the time you achieve enough for a solid cover you will need to cut the masking away at the edges anyways which would require some luck and patience if you're trying to get the same clean pattern. Only thing i could think of is if you made a pro template and just kept lining it back up and removing it as soon as your coat is applied

You know... when I first read this thread I thought "oh hell no!!!" But it looks real nice on that truck. I personally wouldn't do it to mine but I would say give it a go and see if you like it. You've lost nothing but the price of the Derp.

I didn't even list it as an option cause it would probably take a really long time, but if you have the time and patience for it that's probably the safest route!

Put a VERY thin layer of oil on the front side of the tape before you put it down.
