it can, if you connect the harness thats just to the left of the fuse box. But I didnt because I didnt want to compromise the video quality by splitting the composite video signal to two monitors. besides the rear view mirror is way too small.

The mirror goes blue screen due to missing camera video, but 2 seconds later shuts off and you get FULL review mirror use.

Major props to you for consolidating the info! I didn't have the time and though I think I learned enough to piece it together myself using the part #'s, pin #'s, etc, I felt buying a plug-n-play harness was worth the $70.

Got the harness off ebay installed today and it works like a charm. Now i have a bigger screen to go off of while reversing. Installing was not too bad, I'd say about 15 minutes. Learned that our radios came out a little easier then I thought. GOOD MOD...

Are you saying with video routed to the head unit ONLY, the display in the mirror turns blue for a time? Does anyone know if this also happens using the harness from eBay?

you can get the same thing with the eBay cable, just have to tell him. but I didn't want to pay $70 for what I am capable of doing. if you want video in both just plug the harness back in that's in the left of the fuse box. keep in mind that if you spli the video the quality will be lowered. you would have to use a video amp to retain optimal resolution.

Oh, okay. I'm not interested in splitting the signal, just using the head unit's display. I was just asking about the bluescreen in the mirror display, and if there's any way to get rid of that.

Weathertech floor liners moded to hold OEM floor mats, weathertech vent visors, Toyota bed mat, LEER 100XL cap, hood gasket mod to stop whistling.
The Ebay seller claims that the mirror will not go blue, he says he took care of that in the wiring harness.

This is a real interesting mod for me, I think I'll get the harness from Ebay. Is there any possability of doing any harm to anything?

why get the harness just for the blue screen thats there for 2 seconds max? of course you can do harm, its a mod. just be careful. another reason to do it yourself is you can test EVERYTHING you do, but plugging in a cable makes it tough to test it if you wanted to.

How difficult/expensive would a video amp install be? I'm interested in having the display split to both screens without the loss of resolution. I can't decide if I want the image in the head unit or the mirror and it seems both camps are pretty equally populated. I don't mind it in the mirror but I do want a bigger screen. Plus I don't use the rear view mirror to back up as I learned to reverse using side mirrors only.
I'd hate to drop $70 on something I want but might not actually like.

Al & Ed's charges $250 for everything (including OEM camera) and labor to install into your Tacoma

Why has nobody that has ordered the ebay harness posted pictures and diagrams so we can all do this?

If we have a few pictures of the cable, plug ends and inside of the connectors we could start making these...:p

It's obvious, Al and Eds figured it out and so did the person with the harnesses because he builds them to order. They don't want competition. But I am sure lots of us would love the display on both screens.

Depends on the parts and plugs. You can make your own plugs. I just want to see the ends to see if its something we are able to make. I don't back up enough to justify $65 :p

I saw in another thread that you'd have to change out the OEM camera in order to get the grid lines back. The lines are part of the LCD display in the mirror, not part of the image. Apparently their are some after market cameras though that give a better quality image and would add the grid lines back. Kind of a bummer though, now it's a camera + a $60 harness.
