I am in need of a new floor jack and now that I own my first truck I need something big enough to lift the Tacoma when the time comes. my old jack was only big enough to lift my wife's accord and my civic. What floor jack do you guys reccomend to lift the Taco and our sedan?

Any 2 1/2 or 3 ton floor jack will lift it. I always lift the front a side at a time anyhow then use blocks and jack stands, the use the jack to lift the whole rear under the pumpkin. Sams club has a few nice ones, and sears has a set with stands, jack, and a creeper for like a hundread bucks.

if you have the room I would suggest a shop jack with the handle attched and not the smaller ones with the detachable handles. I started with the smaller ones and although they do fine, its a PITA to keep moving the handle around to lower the truck, also the handles are shorter making the leverage an issue at times.
I picked up a 3T jack from Harbor Freight that I am very happy with, its heavy but lifts the truck in about 5 pumps.

Got the low profile 2.5T from harbor freight, love it. Its great for the cars, slides right under my wifes and her car site low, and it lifts to the same height as the others. I just use a block of wood if I need the truck to go higher.

I got it on a coupon and paid like $37 for it which was a crazy steal.

I dont think the coupons work for floor jacks anymore. I remember using a coupon years ago for a floor jack.

I also use a big red jack. Don't ever cheap out on a jack or jack stands. I buy lots of tools from harbor freight, but I will not ever buy jacks or jack stands from them.

I'd rather trust stands made with american steel than some chinese junk if I'm under the vehicle.

:) I purchased a 3 ton floor jack from Sams 15years ago. It was built by Torin, and it came with two saddles, one for a regular car, and a saddle for a SUV. I know it is not carried any more, but You may want to see what Sams or Costco offer and see if it a better made jack. I know it comes from China, but some items are made for some companies with better quality. Good Luck

:) A problem that you will find after looking at many different jacks, is that you will have to find a jack that is a compromise for both a car and a truck. If you go for a jack that will fit under a low slung car, the jack will not lift very high when used on a truck. When you buy a jack that will lift your truck, it will not fit under your car. You must decide what is the more important feature to have, and make it work for the vehicle that the jack doesn't fit.

With my Jack, I could not get it under my Miata, so I used my floor jack to lift each side up and I placed a cinder block under each wheel and raised the whole front end so my jack would fit. It was not the safest thing like using my jack stands, but I could not lift and place jack stands in the same area on a Miata. I did get the car up high enough to use my jack to lift the car. It is these kind of things that you will need to decide on before buying a jack. Good Luck.

If you have the room. Maybe ramps and a floor jack. The ramps can be useful for the truck as well if you aren't changing tires or working on suspension. Don't forget a good tire chock too.

    Just bought it!
I just bought the 3 ton from harbor freight. Wish I would've grabbed the 2.5 ton as I noticed it goes 1.5 inches higher, but I figured I should get the higher weight rating. It worked well enough. I didn't have much luck lifting the truck by the frame, at full lift I don't even think the tire left the ground, but I lifted it up by the axle and it came up plenty high. I had a coupon and got it for $69(and noticed it was also $69 the very next day for their sidewalk sale) and got the jack stands for $15 at the sidewalk sale as well. As others mentioned, I did make sure to limit my time under the truck. It seems plenty sturdy, but it's always gonna be on my mind that it's a jack/stands from harbor freight, and probably won't take any naps under the truck while it's lifted. Just to be safe I would put the truck down on the back stand, then just lift the jack right up until it was pressing on the axle so if anything would happen to the stand, the jack was right there too. I did have to slide some wood under the stands if I was lifting it by the frame, none needed if the stand was under the axle.

From the reviews I read, it sounds like some people have them randomly stop working a year or two later, assuming a seal inside broke. I would've bought nicer ones if I hadn't spent all my money on tires and brakes, but I'll upgrade them later.

Home depot has one that comes with a spacer so it goes way higher than the HF jack and it's the same price. I would've bought it but it was online only and I didn't want to wait the 7-10 days it said it would take. Sears also had a craftsman 2.5 ton for only $45, can't remember if that was normal or the sales price, but there aren't any sears around me anymore, so no luck on that one.

Realistically, if you're gonna spend money on anything, I'd make it the jack stands. The jack only needs to lift your truck for a minute, the stands are what are really holding the weight while you're working/under the truck.

I got ramps and tire chokes. I just need to do the brakes on our accord and since my cheapo trolley jack from HF is shot i figured I would look for a jack the would be also suitable for the taco once I need it.

I think I am going with one. Seems to seat really low 2.75in and a maximum height of 20in which is high compared to what I have been seeing around. $84 bucks and decent reviews.
