I'd prefer to tape and mask everything off that you don't want dip on. Yeah! It's a bit of a pain in the ass but it's better than cleaning up overspray of dip. Easier to pull it off tape, newspaper, regardless of the thickness. But if you get thin layers on your truck that aren't prepped it's going to take you longer to get that dip off.

Absolutely, no question about tapping/masking off what I did not want to dip, did this with the badges already and turned out great.

Guess my question is, any reason to not simply spray the plastic trim on the bumper as well as the chrome. The tailgate, paint, tail lights etc, would be completely masked off.

Well it's to your own discrection. If you wanna do the plastic trim then that's to you. I personally didn't because I am constantly stepping on me and such. I just like the color of black difference between them. No one is saying that you can't do your bumper and the black plastic trim. If that's what you want, dip on brother!

I put tire shine on everything. I think I probably use almost a whole can when I wash my truck. Tires, wheel wells, frame rails, everything I can get to underneath gets it. Looks great.

Looking through your gallery, are your wheels dipped as well or are they painted?

Painted with rustoleum hammered black (or something like that)

There is a great post on this site somewhere, I think it's called "paint it black, wheeelz edition"

The prep stage was tedious with roughing up the surface, wet sanding, priming multiple coats, and adding multiple light coats of the paint.
