Has anyone come up with a good 4X4 emblem that matches up well with the factory "TRD OFF ROAD" Emblem. Seems the mud flaps is a strange place to put it. Just a matter of time before that spot is trashed.

Or am I all wet and this thread is a bad idea?

    Thanks

Not sure about a 4x4 emblem that matches up with the TRD stickers. However, a few guys have gone with the Tundra's 4x4 emblem which matches the emblems/badges on your tailgate although it's a little larger.

If you're planning to plast-dip or remove/move some of your badging, the Tundra 4x4 emblem would be my choice. You can get them for about $20 on ebay, not sure what a new one costs at the dealer.

    Here's a pic I found with a quick search:

I like your idea better. Found several on eBay with a chrome finish. This would match up nicely with the '12 chrome emblems on the gate. Maybe next to the "V6".

    Thanks

Good deal. Be sure to post up pics!

BTW, all the emblems come in chrome. The one in the pic I posted was probably plasti-dipped like the emblem in my sig pic.

I'd imagine it is going to look cluttered with 3 total "4x4" emblems back there. Just my opinion but anytime I see a vehicle with a ton of 4x4 emblems or TRD emblems, etc. I think "okay we get it you have 4-wheel drive".

Unless you remove the rear flaps or change it out for the PreRunner plain ones, then it will look good

Josh - point well taken. Just don't know what possessed Toyota to badge the mud flaps of all things. I think they certainly could have come up with a better design.

So ... I've got to ask ... does this need for a 4x4 emblem compensate for the lack of a manhood ego ...

i chopped my mud flaps and de-badged most of my tailgate... i thought id want a 4x4 badge, so i got the tundra one, its way too big. i threw it in my cabinet.
going sans badges, i have the selector, thats enough for me...

    I wish I could find a big I4 badge so everyone could tell I don't have a V6.:anonymous:

Funny stuff... but good topic, I think.

I am proud to own a 4WD and I want the Tacoma to be just as easily ID'd as a 4WD as all other 4WD trucks are. Why we don't get a badge like a Tundra does or other makes is a bit odd, IMO.

Like many, I have removed the mud flaps from my 2010 soon after getting it. Mud flaps are the only thing that IDs the Tacoma as being a 4WD. My 2005 was constantly having them snapped off when I went off roading... and I tried to keep putting them back on. Why they didn't go to rubber flaps like my 2001 had (that never came off) is beyond me.

I found a trailer hitch mounted oval 4X4 plaque in a desert gift shop and that has been on the back of my Tacoma, but a chrome badge on the tailgate would sure look more professional. I resisted getting a Tundra one because I assumed it would be crazy priced... so an eBay one may be the ticket?

A year and a half ago, see the 4X4 on the hitch...

Yeah, I'd rather prefer the tailgate badge versus mudflaps the same as you. Would look a lot better. I even liked the 1st gen "4WD" mudflaps design better than "4x4"

Just think back to how confusing the nomenclature of these trucks was the first time you folks started researching them. I for one didn't know what the heck the difference was between the TRD OR, TRD Sport, non TRD, etc. Now that I pass one on the road (with the TRD badge) going the opposite way I find myself tracking him down in the rear view mirror to see if he's well hung {that ones for you Jimmy ;)}.

In all seriousness seems Toyota could have kept it simple. Shorten the TRD nomenclature and make room for the 4X4.

Just to needle you a little more Jimmy...I'm proud of my 4X4 and you darn right, I want to show it off. Just not crazy about the mud flap. :)

I'd rather people guess what I have than advertise.
I saw a Chevy step side all jacked up with a fade paint job the other day... HUGE "4X2" stickers on the side. I was all, "WTF would you PAY, to advertise that your truck is NOT 4wd!!!?"

Debadge, and washing and waxing are easier. I love clean vehicles, AND trying to figure out, "What IS that???"

You and I were both on topic ... ;) ... I guess my point is one purchases a $28,000 vehicle and is upset over the lack of a $9.95 piece of cladded plastic.
