Just had to replace my HD in my MacBoook Pro after only 1.5 years of having it and battery is almost shot. Replaced my HD by myself but when I brought it into the Apple store so they could reload the OS onto it they said the HD cable was bad and charged me $80. Wasn't to happy about that

Every Brand has lemons (no pun intended)

Still not happy about Ashton Kutcher playing Steve Jobs, Like WTF is he gonna punk IBM at the end?! Stupid. Horrible actor for the jobs.

Unless you just want a massive amount of storage or have an extra hard drive laying around, I would just get the external drive. There are 1TB external USB drives (3.0) that sell for around $80. An enclosure is going to run about $25-$30.

The advantage to a naked drive and your own enclosure is warranty. The drive will usually come with a 3-5 year warranty. The ready to go externals are usually only 1 year.

Depends on the company and model. Western Digital "My Passport Elite" drives are 5 years.

    Seagate externals are 2 years.

Do you mean to replace your existing drive with the new one and use your existing drive for the enclosure?

You should be able to just drag any files to it. Be aware that windows xp 32 bit supports a maximum of 2tb. If you get a drive bigger than that, you will have to partition it.
I don't know what the mac max drive size is.

I recently downloaded mountain lion from the app store and installed in but then decided i was going to sell it and needed to do a clean install so i went to Disk utility from start up, Erased the hard drive and ive been trying to reinstall Mountain lion from start up utlities ever since, It just randomly freezes on download and heres the kicker, When i first downloaded it from app store, i had to run HotSpot Shield simuteniously to get the download to fully Download...

What is causing the need for Hotspot Shield?!

    Tried both ethernet and wireless.
