My parents bought me a Tuffy Security Box for my birthday last week and it finally arrived in the mail today! It's a lockbox that replaces the stock storage bin on the Driver's side of the bed (the large bin). Made of 16 gauge SS, powder coated black, waterproof, and has a built in keyed lock.

Took about 20 minutes to install.. mainly because my neighbor was talking to me and I severely stripped a screw :annoyed:

It looks like its about twice the size of the factory bin

    IMG_3600_c663abb2da1e6bcab72bca8f65b6b567fc330b5c.jpg

Very simple install. Take out the screws holding in the factory box, and screw in the Tuffy box. The only problem was the bottom middle screw is sort of blocked by the locking mechanism/hinge/door so its really hard to get the screwdriver in there. I ended up seriously stripping the screw and had to finish tightening it using a pair of vise grips :anonymous:

You can kinda see that screw here behind the weather stripping.

    Final product:

I think it'll be a good investment. I didnt use those little cubby holes at all because they didnt lock and I was afraid to even put tools or jumper cables in there because I didnt want them to rust out. This thing is supposed to be waterproof with the weather stripping that came with it and it's pretty hefty for its size. Should be pretty durable with stuff rubbing up against it in the bed.

I also grabbed a hose clamp to put on my tail gate the other day so now that's done too! Thinking about putting in some bed lights this weekend maybe..

I installed those on both sides- just moved my 110v outlet up. Also wrapped the bottom side with asphalt sound deadening pads to keep road abrasion from rotting them away years later. This did require enlarging the factory holes a bit... good thing these composite beds are easy to cut!
In my drivers one, I have a pair of rubber boots, a can of WD-40, a can of dry graphite, and a can of brakleen.
In my passengers one, I have coveralls, a pair of work gloves, a roll of shop towels, and a tub of Gojo hand cleaner.
Every pickup should have something like this inside the box... dust-proof, weather-proof, totally secure

I'm interested.. Where'd you move the outlet to? Got any pictures?

I thought about keeping my work boots in there to make a little more room in my toolbox without having the boots rolling around in the bed.. Have you had any problems keeping boots or anything that are damp/wet? My main concern about it is that since its waterproof I don't want to put something wet in there and then get mold because the moisture can't escape.

Definitely would be good to keep some WD40 and whatnot in there. Or like my friends dad said I could keep a bottle of bourbon in there in case of emergencies. Haha

These boxes are completely seam welded, so no leaks from road spray.
I wish I'd have taken pictures of the install... but I put these in within the first 10 days of ownership of the truck. I didn't join TW until 9 months later

With the weatherstripping installed properly, I've never had a drop of moisture get into my Tuffy box.

    Working on it
Sorry to dig up an old thread, but at $190 these are expensive and I had nasty surprise while working on my spare tire holder....

I never had a drop of water in mine, but it looks like you need to pull the boxes and remove the rust and repaint every so often....

Is there any way to prevent it from rusting especially for what they cost?

Steel rusts and they get soaking wet with water and dirt and road debris.

    $1 or $1 million, rust doesn't care.

You have a point. I will just get the cover without replacing the entire box. This way if it rusts ,it will just be the door and not the container itself being that it's plastic. Thanks.

I had both of mine line-x ed before install. Line-x will take the harsh road debris no problem. Ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.

You wouldn't happen to have photos of the security box with the line-x?

I wonder if the "Bolt" lock would fit in place of the TuffyBox lock? that would be awesome to have it keyed the same as the truck.
