Finally replaced the Taco's silly horn!

For as tough of a truck as the taco is, the horn is so oddly out of place. But I've put up with it for a while, wincing every time I hit the steering wheel. Of course, it ticks me off when my wife imitates it, (meep meep!) but hey it could be worse. So the other day, I go to honk at someone crossing the street in front of me, and they looked up and laughed. They @#$%ing laughed. So that was it. I had to replace that sissy sounding horn! I didn't need to install some insane air compressor driven semi or train horn, but I just needed one with a bit more authority. Think: '74 Bonneville, or something like that.

Since I have an O'reilly's within walking distance, I strolled over there to see what they had for under $20. And sure enough, found the Wolo 320-2T, which had some decent reviews on Amazon. Picked it up and went home to install. It took a little engineering, since the original horn is tiny, and this Wolo horn is much fatter, and in 2 pieces. I put one in the original horn location, and one under the hood, next to the airbox.

In a rare bout of foresight, I had the video camera running to compare the before and after sounds. Unfortunately, the camera doesn't really capture the difference in volume, but it is definitely there. It does capture, however, the difference in tone, which is quite welcome.

And since I was off today, I thought I'd mess around with iMovie a bit, do a little comparo. Sorry for the noob quality, but I had fun with it anyway.

OMG that video is HILARIOUS!!!! As far as the horn MUCH better sounds like a real horn now. I'm going right after work to pick up a set of new horns I cringe everytime I have to use the stock ones. As far as the new ones go, did you have to do any kind of splicing or wiring or was it plug-n-play?

Thanks. I've read that some are plug n play, but this one had a positive terminal on two horns which were a fair distance apart. I couldve rigged up something with the right size spade ends, but it was quite easy to splice a Y into the stock hot wire, esp. since the previous owner had hacked into that wire already. And it's not like I'm ever putting that OEM horn back in there anyway. I put that thing on a fast track to the landfill.
