Thinking of pulling the trigger on front and rear lockers. No time to do it myself so the quote I am getting is just under $3600 out the door. Include s the twin compressor instead of running a small pressure tank.

Hows this price sound? Tired of the damn e-locker never working when I need it and I have tried all the tricks mentioned on this forum its just hit and miss.

    price seems bit high actually

    lockers are around 900+/- x2
    comp 400-500
    install around 200 - 300 x2

I can see 2800-3000 at the most, unless I am missing something.

My front was 1200 out the door

btw, you really dont need the big ARB comp, the small one with a small res/tank is more then enough for lockers.

I think that quote is about right, it only seems high because of the $500 compressor. Most people get the $250 compressor.

The oversized compressor let me remove the air tank, so while not a total push on the cost still within $100.

Looks like a fair price to me - that's a "drive in/drive out" price right? Dropping that front diff is a pain in the @$$.

You can save 200 by using the CKMA12 compressor. It's compact enough to fit under the hood. It includes a tiny tank that holds enough air to run both lockers (ARB designed it for that purpose and I use it successfully all the time) and it can air up your tires (though not real fast - say 15 minutes for all four at the end of the day, including getting out and stowing the air hose)

That said, the twin compressor will air your tires faster and may allow you to run small air tools.

Don't know where you were planning on mounting it but personally, I wouldn't mount any compressor in the cab. It can come on unexpectedly whenever the system pressure drops below a certain threshold, and in the cab that would be loud enough to make me jump high enough to dent the roof.

That 72.50 labor rate would be unheard of anywhere out here in Cali.

All that said - are you at stock ride height? I don't see any pics in your gallery that tells me for sure.

I've never gotten into anything that needed me to be locked in front that I could have gotten into without being lifted with 33" tires and sliders.

So - if you're at stock height: consider saving some coin by going with the CKMA12 compressor, and only locking up the rear.

Conversely if you're lifted and running 33s, this is THE opportune time to regear to 4.56 gearing.

Yeah, thats the all in price. The twin will fit under the hood on the passenger side (i think/hope). I will also have a switch so that the compressor will only be started when needed. Slow leaks with compressors are the reason the garage compressor has a switch. Nothing like the sound of it winding up at 2am.

Now time to save the pennies. Sad to say, but the girlfriend is getting a set of fakies I need to cough up for as a priority over my lockers. Its ok though as I will probably get to play with those more than my lockers anyway as we only get a month or two in the US every year.

Yeah $900 in labor is a probably a fair rate as 33% of the parts cost given the technical nature.

First time I have used this shop, but they are putting on 886's with Billies all around so I will get to see their work when I am back home Sunday.

    indeed,

OP, have you had a tech/mech take a look at your e locker actuator?

I read somewhere there was a manual conversion, just have to route a cable and find room for a slide stick.

No lifted 2.5 with 32" and I am in stuff that even with lockers I cant make probably. I have been seriously looking for a Unimog 406 or a M715 for winter snow for the past few months so you can imagine my needs. haven't found anything that I like yet though so this is the compromise and fixes that POS e-locker which never works when I need it. Also if it is going in the shop for the rear, then I will pull the trigger on both. Time is usually a bigger factor.

Have chains for the rear as well. Winter and Spring in Southern Idaho is either deep snow or mud. In neither does the taco impress me. Summer/Fall though it is perfect. Anywhere close to my house I drive my old m38 jeep flatfender if the weathers right.

I'll try and get some better shots when home playing in October.

Shit! I thought there was one as only some say specifically for the non e-locker.

I had the stealership pull it apart the spring while I was out o the country when they did a full 60k service for me, but when I got home and used it was still spotty at best even when working it left right, forward back, up down.

Whats the damage on a new axle?

Any link for the manual cable idea?

That's a fair question. Call up ARB USA to be sure one way or the other. I wouldn't rely on any information posted on any internet site to answer it with certainty. Better yet - have your shop call them up. That way - if the answer turns out different than expected they can't say they were relying on information YOU provided, and charge you anyway.

I was just quoted $8,095 for front and rear ARB with large compressor. 4.88 gears with install kits. camburg UCA's. And 265/75-16 toyo mt's. The quoted price is for all parts and installation. We always have to pay extra in Hawaii

Thats $5k in parts, but you Hawaii'ns do pay a premium. Sorry, but that is the bill for the weather and fishing you enjoy; sorry about the hunting though.

I just emailed ARB for a verdict on if they make a locker for the rear with the e-locker. I will advise on the verdict. Thanks for all the opinions and advice all.
