Typically most owners, will upsize to 33s(285/70/16 or 285/75/16) and you'll only need to do some minor trimming and possibly the CMC mod. You can go slightly larger if you're not afraid to really chop down the cab mount area.

I like the look of 33s on a 2.5-3" lift. Everything stays proportional and the overall look flows well.

I've test fit 17x9 with -12 offset wrapped in 285/70/17 through full turn only brushes on the part of the flap that bulges out...I don't do any offroading...

My Tacoma came with 17" and I went down to 16"..I think more rubber than wheel looks better on 4X4.

I have 265/75/16 on 16x8.5" 5100's set at 1.75" I only had to remove the front mud flaps and nothing rubs. I believe with 285 you will have to do some trimming and your gas mileage will take more of hit than 265s.

That will depend on your preference. Some people prefer to have more tire than wheel and vice versa. Your overall tire height will remain the same. I don't think you can go wrong with either choice.
