Does your Tacoma have an "N" on the vin# these were built by the New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. and are supposed to be superior to lets say my 2010..

    It's the wife's T4R so it's stock
In the old days (not sure if true anymore past NUMMI shutting down), the NUMMI tacomas VIN started with a 5 and the Mexico Tacomas started with a 3.

A motor vehicle nowadays is the sum of it's parts. Is the Texas built one inferior to the NUMMI truck? I would say no. I've now owned both. However I'm experiencing issues that are annoying that were not present on my old truck. It was an '06. But I'm still more than satisfied with my current one.
Just wish they would hurry up and bring the turbo diesel to market.

If you got an 09 built after the labor contract was signed in that year, you likely got a well built truck by happy workers. However, once Toyota announced that production would be moved to Texas, I'm guessing production quality fell at the NUMMI plant when people soon to be out of jobs, were building trucks for others who had not lost theirs.

Probably took a few months to smooth production at the new plant in Texas as well.

My best friend's dad used to work at NUMMI (right near my neighborhood) and said that even with the more advanced machinery, the NUMMI plant didn't have as good of numbers as the Mexico plant.

My truck is from NUMMI :(

Used to drive by there a lot. Lotta Bay Area folks had good jobs there.

Sucks what happened to those workers.

At least the building didn't go to waste; they're building Teslas there now. Must be doing well, I'm seeing at least three out on the roads every day now.

My brother worked at NUMMI for 14yrs before it shutdown. For many of those years, NUMMI was always either #1 or #2 when it came to QA in comparison to other plants. As most know, the plant is now home to Tesla. Most of their labor employees are former NUMMI workers. I know a few folks that got called back to Tesla and even though their not making the same amount of money as before, they're racking in tons of OT.

I believe mine starts with a 3. But, I'm good with it. So far it's been perfect. Hell, I don't even have the annoying grill whistle, so it's looking good so far.

I think I remember seeing Baja Cali on the door jam sticker.

Mine was UAW-made in NUMMI. No problems whatsoever except a chirping heater blower. I think the biggest drawback for Toyota in the NUMMI tie-up was preference for parts made by Delphi (GM subsidary).

I posted this a little while back. The workers don't seem that disgruntled:

It's pretty ironic that NUMMI built two of the Toyota models that carry the reputation for being indestructible: Tacoma and Corolla:

Is it me, or do the side curtain airbags look like detcord?
