    All in due time...
Hey guys, I got my '13 DCLB Sport 4x4 MGM tinted yesterday at 5%, which is basically like limo tint. I love the privacy and look of it from the outside, but as I was driving it around I noticed a significant decrease in visibility from the inside that I didn't expect. It's harder for me to see vehicles around me, and it was especially difficult reversing into my parking spot last night.

I just wanted to get some input from some of you that have dark tint already--does anyone regret getting it that dark? Do you eventually adjust to the decreased visibility around you? Does it help to get LED reverse lights, or possibly even an additional reverse LED light bar on the bumper?

    Thanks for your input!!

It takes a while to get used to, add aux reverse lights to help out, the stock ones (even with LEDs) are complete crap. If none of that suits you just remove the 5% and add 15%

It just took me a few weeks to get use to it.

When I have to back up I just roll down all the windows and its usually fine.

Back up camera was helpful but I have to wait 3 days before I can roll the windows down so the tint doesn't get ruined. I guess I'll find out then. Thanks for the input!

In NY can't go darker than 70% VLT so 50%,35%,20%,5% are all illegal.

I put 30% on my 2011 ford focus and combined with the factory tint that made it only 24% vlt.

I did get a ticket for it and even then it was more difficult to back up but not horribly bad. I also had tinted tail lights and back up lights though.

Out here the % isn't an issue, it's tinting the driver/passenger windows that makes it illegal...

When I had 5% I rolled down my windows too but now the backup camera helps a lot....doesn't take too long to get use to.

Check my build thread...too much to list.
I used to have tint that dark on my old truck and it did bother me a bit. I didn't like the visability but I learned to deal with it. With my current truck when I tint it I'll do a lighter shade or the ceramic stuff that blocks out a ton of heat.

i did 5% all the way around on my tacoma and the best thing i found for reversing was replace the stock reverse lights with hid's. i glued a h3 bulb in my housing and connected the balast to the stock wiring. no preblems yet and its been about a year

Regardless if it's illegal or not is not the discussion. I'm sure the tint installer made her pay cash or sign a waver.

I run 20% on the drivers and passenger windows and 5% on the back doors and rear window. I had the same issue as you with the last truck. Also it makes you a target for cops with windows that dark.

5% looks nice in my opinion, but not safe. I'd never go that dark for the sake of looks, just plain doesn't make sense. If I were you, I'd spend the extra money to have it removed and changed to something lighter. Just imagine how you'd feel if you ran over a baby while trying to park in the evening? Also, one ticket would cost more than replacing it. When I had my tint done the shop wouldn't go darker than 30%. They said they would be liable if I caused an accident due to dark tint.

I think it just takes some getting used too. But no matter what makes things hard to see. Especially people walking at night. You cant always have your windows down. And you cant see them coming from the side. Just be careful.
