So i got the itching of blacking out my emblems once i got my 2 week old truck lifted. I thought the easiest thing to do would be tape off the emblems and just plasti dip them one night without much trouble. Boy was i wrong! it worked yes, but the painting was less than par and it was already beginning to peel.. (my lack of skill in this area truly showed.) I didnt like the look of having all my o's and a's filled in either. I ended up skipping my 8am college class to pull the black off knowing i couldnt stand the look.. Thank You OCD. I finally realized i would have to pull them off, paint them and then rebadge them. (should have did this the first time) I decided to skip the whole heating process because i knew it would take me nearly all day. that was my first mistake in this day long process.. I broke more fishing string on my emblems than i broke all year long fishing! Finally i got it pulled and here was thee first look. photo 2.jpg Here is where the goo gone came in handy. After each emblem of multiple attempts with fishing line i was left with pretty much all the adhesive on the truck. The adhesive stood no chance against the beautiful product and i managed to get this out of it photo 4.jpg
    photo 3.jpg to be continued...

After all were pulled i took them in and cleaned them up getting them ready to be painted emblems.jpg
after 3 or 4 coats of painting i took them back out with some 3m super weatherstrip adhesive and hoped for the best. I felt like a 4 year old glueing stuff again except there was a little more at stake then a snowman made of cotton balls on a sheet of paper. After finally getting them all put back on, pulling my tape that i used for location and cleaning the area back up with a little more goo gone here is what i got....

Great school... My wife graduated from there like 3 years ago and my sister in law just graduated last December. I've been contemplating getting my masters from there. Nonetheless though, you got one sick ride...

Come check out the Tennessee BS thread... Lot of good guys from around here shoot the bull in that thread...

Come check it out... And congrats on your ride!

Before you re-install them, i would recommend getting some 3M rubbing compound on a rag and buffing the places were the emblems were by hand. then wax and de-wax them. That will make the swirls from cleaning around the emblems disappear and make the paint hold up a lot longer.

I did mine and they turned out mint, it was super easy as well, did them while they were still on. The key is like 5-6 lightly sprayed coats, I gave it like 10-15 mins and pulled the tape off around the edges while using a blade to cut the plasti dip holding it on. Then I used a toothpick to get the inside parts, was really gentle with it and it was super easy thanks to TW DIY

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.

I dipped mine and the turned out great that way you don't have to remove them. Just tape around the emblems. Spray 4 to 6 light coats of black and 1 to 2 coats of gloss if you want a gloss finish. Allow proper dry time between coats. Then peel off and for the tight spots like between the O and the A use a tooth pick works like a charm. I did mine with a blue metallic flake.
