Just sold my v8 quad cab Dakota and am looking to get into a Double Cab Tacoma. I've dug through these forums and keep seeing people referring to "Base vs SR5" but my question is is there such a thing as a 2nd gen base with an SR5 package? I've never seen one on a lot/out driving but you can build one on Toyota's website. Specifically I'd like find out if this exist:

    • 2.7L 4 cyl
    • Double Cab
    • 2WD base (not pre-runner)
    • with SR5

    Any help would be appreciated.

Base and SR5 are mutually exclusive terms.
"Base" does not refer to the suspension, you can get a "Base" Prerunner.
The Prerunner is a 6-lug, same as the 4x4.
The standard 2WD is the 5-lug.

You just want an SR5 2WD without the TRD options.
Generally, if you ask for 2WD instead of "Prerunner" you'll get the 5-lug.

The Toyota web site lists "2WD" and "2WD-Prerunner"

For the 2WD 2.7 DC with the SR5 package, you're looking at about $25,640 msrp.

Thanks rich. I'm familiar with the suspension options and assumed there wasn't a reason why you couldn't have both at the same time. I've just never seen a loan SR5 badge on the back of a Taco without it sitting next to/above a v6 or prerunner badge. I can understand why wouldn't offer a premium option with your cheapest truck, but after driving trucks my whole life, I'm just interested in a truck with big MPG and cheap tires.

Ya... There are two options packages (on the main Toyota site, if you are with Gulf States or SouthEast Toyota the options may be different)...
    +~$800 for the Convenience Package:
Cruise, keyless entry, steering wheel audio, and tinted rear glass with a sliding window.
+~$2200 for the SR5 Extra Value Package:
Entune, intermittent wipers, chrome grille and rear bumper, color keyed front bumper and fender flares, bucket seats, leather wheel, visors have mirrors and extenders, and backup camera.

There is no option for "stripped" for the Doublecab.
There is no option for fog lights, but I would suspect that the Doublecab may be prewired, which makes it easy to add them.

Here is what it looks like on a 2006 2.7L standard cab 4x4. The SR5 package was an option that provided color keyed front bumper and fender flares, bucket seats and a few other creature comforts.

I've seen a non prerunner double cab 2WD with the 2.7L 4 cyl on the lot at the Toyota dealership right next to my work. It was the non SR5 base model for almost $24k. Since you can get a non prerunner access cab 4cyl 2WD SR5, I don't see why you shouldn't be able to get the double cab 2WD in the SR5 trim level as well. It looks kinda funky though with those fender flares and small wheels and tires!

    Quoted from another thread....

Cody's options may be different with Arkansas being under either Gulf States or Southeast Toyota. The above is from the Toyota site for the LA area.
