Just purchased a lift kit from Toytec, but one of the parts is confusing me a little. What exactly is a top mounting plate for?

I've tried the search function and google with no luck, but if someone has a better place for me to look please let me know! :) Thanks in advance!

Here is the kit I bought. I also have another question. At the bottom it says ** SOME Tacoma models with a total of 4 leafs (3 main leafs, 1 overload) in the rear leaf pack require our TSB AAL- Part # TAC-AL-TSB. Please count how many leafs you have before ordering **

I didn't read that correctly and bought the 2 inch add-a-leafs instead of the 1.5 inch TSB AAL. Has anyone installed the 2 inch AAL instead and had it actually work?

I think the 2" is a little longer and wont fit into the pack. They will hit the oem leaf pack brackets.

Someone please correct me if I am saying anything wrong...

I got this same kit and just installed it a couple of weeks ago. That top mounting plate is so that you can achieve a maximum lift of 3". The kit will come with another plate that is about a quarter inch thick, that's used to correct the "taco lean" which I did not use. But I kept the part. I also ordered the sway bar relocate kit because the sway bar was rubbing on the coil. The relocate kit moved the sway. Bar up about a inch giving plenty of clearance. I went with a 285/65/18 nitto trail grappler. Clearance is good and I had to remove the front mud flaps and did the cab mount chop.

Why would you not use the taco lean spacer ?

My taco doesn't have that lean yet! Adding that spacer would cause it to have a lean at this point! If at one point it does start meaning, I will just add it on.mypu5e4y_2250b2fadc04e116d66b61c5d53a16397061a01e.jpg

As of right now it sits level

No I haven't but if it is sitting lower, then I always have that spacer for just in case. On my 06 tacoma off road DCSB it was noticeable. Not much on this one

Thanks for the response! I got into contact with Toytec and got the correct AAL ordered, they should be here wednesday. I have another question, about U bolts. The kit doesn't come with new U bolts but I've read on TW to not reuse the old ones. Does anyone know where to get new U bolts, besides the dealer? Dealer told me they have 3 options for my truck and they're all $35-$40 for one U bolt...seems a little expensive to me and they also couldn't explain why there are 3 options

Thanks again for all of the help!

    Too few to list.
Some of us re-use our u-bolts with no issues. I believe Toytec sells a set for less than what the dealer is quoting you.

I used my old U bolts. And when u install the aal, make sure to use C-clamps so that you don't mess up the threads on the new bolts. Have fun with the install!
