I got my 2013 TRD Sport Tacoma last spring and I think it is time to mod it. For a birthday present I have about $500 to modify it. I'm thinking along the lines of a brush guard, lights.. etc. Let me know what yall think will look good on a silver tacoma! Also preferably things that I can do on my own without any welding or special skills. Thanks!

Weathertech floor liners and a rubber bed mat should always be the first two things imo.

Thank you for all of the input! Sadly I'm not old enough to buy the Glock, and thankfully my truck came with weather mats! I have been really interested in getting lights on my truck, I'm torn between getting halos or getting a light bar with the bightest lights I can find. Any tips? Thanks again for all of the input!

The differentials (front and rear), transmission, transfer case and e-locker (if equipped) all have breathers (sort of). Toyota does a good job running the front diff, transmission and transfer case breathers up pretty high inside the engine compartment on the newer trucks.

The rear differential they just put a one way valve instead of a breather. The one way valve allows air to expand out of the rear diff as the fluid gets hot, preventing a ruptured seal from over pressure. The one way valve does not (as the name implies) allow air back in so as the diff cools its under vacuum. The 1 way valve can hold a little vacuum, but over time as the truck sits and cools slowly, it slowly bleeds back in (not completely, but mostly).

When you are driving your truck off road and the rear diff is warm and you suddenly plunk your rear diff in water/mud the rear diff cools very quickly causing a sudden strong vacuum. The one way valve doesn't allow the air to suck in, so the the seals suck in. The rear diff doesn't have to be submerged - just have water/mud part way up the seals and it can suck water/mud into the rear diff. Obviously, the rear differential won't live a long time w/ mud/water in the oil. This isn't the sort of thing that is guaranteed to get you the first time it happens (though it might), but eventually you will wind up with water/mud in your rear diff.

The rear diff mod replaces the one-way valve w/ a proper breather like the front diff has and re-routes it higher up like the front breathers. People have put the breathers in a variety of spots: gas fill compartment, storage boxes in the bed, etc. I liked the behind the tail light idea the best and that's the way I went on my truck.

Thank you for the explanation! I'm definitely going to do it.
