Auto parts guys can't seem to locate this seal. It's the one on the end of the axle. They keep coming up with 710596 but it's not that. This one cups the seal on the back of the knuckle (710573). I stole this pic off a thread on here so thank you to whoever took it :)

God I love you guys :). Doesn't look like any of the big box stores can get it so will have to order. Thank you!

That seal is part of the CV axle itself as far as the big box stores. You would have to go dealer there.

Question for you guys who regularly, or even have done it once, taken your CV axle out. I'm going to be doing the ECGS bushing very quickly here. I already checked out the thread about how to pull the CV axle, several actually. I ordered up the oil seal that goes in the front diff from Toyota.

Is the seal pictured in this thread a part that gets messed up upon taking the CV axle out? Or do you really have to work at effing it up? I'd like to just do this job once and do it right.

How about when you pop the wheel bearing out of the knuckle, do you need any seals to replace there as well?

Nope. Opposite end of the axle. The part that gets messed up is the part that goes into the punkin.

As for the wheel bearing, don't waste your time. If they are not bad, don't deal with them. If they are bad, get ahold of bama. Those front wheel bearings are a hitch to change.

    I did once, never again.

I'm under the impression you have to remove the wheel bearing in order to remove the CV axle, or do you just take the nut off the end and you can drive the axle out without taking the wheel bearing off?

    No.

There are 4 bolts on the bottom of the lower ball joint. Remove those, remove the big axle nut and pull the spindle out. You can then pull the whole axle shaft out. It may take some serious jerking on the axle shaft to pull it out of the punkin. You might need to pry it as well. The O ring offers quite a bit of resistance. A little bit of oil may come out as well.

You have to do nothing with the wheel bearring. It stays in the spindle. The bearring won't come out at all. The axle stub slides right out of the wheel bearring.

That makes this job a little better, thank you!

Glad to help. Report back when you get it done. Repair shops want $300 just to change an axle. You will shake your head as and wonder why when you get done. In their defence, they do have overhead bills to pay.
