After sitting in the Social Security Office for 2.5 hours (an adventure in itself ) to legally change my wife's last name, I came out just in time to watch an older gentleman fresh out of dialysis in a Yukon back into me. Pushed my bumper in on the driver side, opened the gap on the passenger side, and chipped some paint on the bedside under the bumper. He was miffed, not sure he even knew, but the parking attendant and I watched him do it. Damage isn't terrible, but my bumper is definitely out of whack. Do you think it needs replacement or will they somehow realign this one? I may go the plate bumper route if it needs replacing...

The bumper can likely be realigned by loosening the bolts underneath that attach the bumper to the frame, aligning the bumper to your liking and tightening back down. Someone did the same thing to mine (except mine's chrome so no paint to scuff), did the exact same thing to the alignment. Took about 10 minutes and it was back to normal.

If you look in the second pic (hard to see, just noticed it now), there is a dent about the size of a grapefruit. Not sure if it makes a difference.

Shouldn't make a difference as far as alignment goes. I doubt the whole bumper is bent, just a ding.

Not worth paying 100-150 to get that small dent fixed I would just leave it. My bumper has two small dents like that one on each side, no problem.

I'd have his insurance cut you a check for all damages for the cost of new OEM replacement and put the funds toward a plate under of your choice.

Not your fault your truck was damaged by another's actions...that's why you and everyone else is required to carry liability. I wouldn't want to 'just live with it'...being as you're not at fault...old, young, rich or poor, you're responsible and accountable for your actions and mistakes.

If the total damage is more than $250, I don't pay anything including deductible. I don't plan on spending a dime...

His fault...his insurance...his deductible. I wouldn't come out of pocket for anything. (except cost differential of plate bumper, if you go that route.) If his insurance gives you any guff, have your carrier go after them...that's what you write that cheque for every month.

X2 and I'm sure of it. I recently got rearended by an F150 with a ranch guard going less than 5mph. Curled up the passenger corner and deemed it unrepairable. Toyota dealership quoted me about $1200 for parts and colormatched paint. Gave the other driver the written quote and we settled without insurance for $750 cash. Paid bills with half, the other half went towards a body armor rear bumper.

The guy that hit you probably didn't have a rear view camera.

Well, my insurance premiums won't change, but his probably will (not my prob). In your instance, I would have his insurance cut me a $1200 check instead of settling for $750. You can spend the insurance check however you please, including buying armor instead of fixing said bumper. If it wasn't your fault, why would you settle for less? $1200 buys more armor than $750....

Unfortunately I had to settle fast because his insurance informed me they had some issues with his coverage so there was going to be a delay while they investigate because it was a work truck owned by his boss. Also the owner didn't want his coverage dropped with a claim. End result, everyone won. Hope yours end well.

    ^^^This^^^

I'm all for being a nice guy, but if someone breaks your shit, they pay to make you whole again...again, this is why there are laws to require a minimum of liability insurance to be a legal automobile on public roadways. If your rates go up as a result of your own negligence, tough titty.

In the f-150 collision instance, I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that the guy had a $1000 deductible, and that's why he offered $750.

Sounds like they got over on you...you lost $450 for no real good reason. If he has insurance troubles, how is that your problem?

I would have gone after him, especially if he was uninsured/under insured. And it was a business owned vehicle? Someone needs to get their act together. Personally, I wouldn't care if he was dropped by his carrier, not any of my concern...not trying to be a dick, but you fuck up, you fix it and not at my inconvenience. (I'm using 'you' in the royal sense)

I know I have uninsured motorist coverage attached to my insurance. If a claim goes against that coverage, my rates still stay the same
