    Hi,

Pins in calipers were so rusted that I had to remove calipers so I can drill in them. I also broke a metal line when removing calipers, they where rusted enough that the screw on each end wouldn't turn...

I already ordered four pins (two each side) and 2 metal lines (one each side).

My question: what should I put on the pins to avoid being again stuck by rust ? Is anti-seize (copper for high temp) better than synthetic brake lubricant ?

Calipers on my tacoma has 4 pistons, like this one: http://i712.photobucket.com/albums/ww121/badguybuster/100_1834.jpg

    Thank you.

At that point man i would just swap them out and return cores

Anti-seize will work great. I use it on o2 sensor threads and it doesn't cook off. Wash your truck more often if they salt the roads where you live.

Yeah, I've thought about it, but I managed to remove all pins by cutting it in the center with a grinder and drill them out.

It took me 1h30 for both sides. Not bad for saving 150$

No, they aren't seized, they work fine.

This is the first time that I had to cut pins. On other cars, they are made differently and, even if caliper are rusted, it takes 15 minutes to change pads and rotors. Pins are inside calipers and we use an allen key to unscrew them. Also, pins are smaller diameter than the hole, except the thread and at the end, so there much less chances to see pins welding to the holes

Unlike Tacoma ... They were entierly welded to the hole and I had nothing to hold so I can remove them by twisting or someting like that. Even PB Blaster wasn't able to penetrate between pin and hole.

it can be a pain in the ass but I used to put a thin film of silkolene pro rg2 grease on each pin when i rotated my tires. that was fun compared to completely disassembling my rear e brake every other rotation.

Copper anti-seize on the pins would work.

Most cars have sliding calipers with a single piston; the outboard brake pad relies on the entire caliper body sliding inward to work. Sliding calipers are in fact more likely to seize if neglected. Those "pins" on the 4WD Tacoma caliper are simply there to prevent the brake pads from flying outward. You don't actually need to lubricate them for the caliper to function, until time comes to change brake pads. Many race car calipers are built similarly, and use large, loosely-fitted cotter pin(s):

KenLins, yeah, I understand, but at least, Toyota should make pins less larger than those so they won't be stuck in rust over time...

I just picked up pins at stealership and I paid 8$ each ... 32$ CAD total for 4 pins

Last time I changed my rotors I pulled those pins and drilled out the holes in the caliper to the next size and coated the pins with antiseize. I highly doubt that those pins will ever seize now.

First brake job (rotors and pad) will probably be this summer. I plan on coating the ends of the pins with this on both sides of the caliper holes and them moving them back and forth so caliper hole is coated inside and outside. i have used this stuff before and nothing will remove it or wash it away so the pins should never rust in there.

Holy you must be the crypt keeper, brought this back from the dead. But anti seize on the pins should work just fine.

yep, and very fond of zombies too.. I have anti seize but find it works better on threaded fasteners.. the permatex purple stuff is much thicker, almost like bubble gum in thickness and wont thin out or wash off.
