I bought the buddy heater and extra chord from tractor supply. It works great. I connect it to my 5 gallon grill propane tank and leave the tank outside and run the hose inside. It stays really warm throughout the night and is safe for in tent use. No worries about gas poison.

I also have the large tank adapter and run the big buddy on it using 20 lb. tanks. My tent is made for a wood stove, so I put the tank outside also and run the hose under the tent and up through the stove zip out.

2 problems I have had with using propane (neither applicable to Fl. LOL) is even a 20 lb. tank isn't large enough when it gets really cold out, they will freeze up on you. The other is the low oxygen sensor will trip at higher elevations in Co. and the damn thing will not stay lit. There was a company that made replacement sensors for awhile but pretty sure the lawyers got to them and they are no longer made.

I would never, ever suggest someone to stick one of these heaters in their tents. If it was a life or death emergency then I would say do so. By using this in a tent you're risking a fire, someone to get burt.

I would suggest getting a goose down sleeping blanket. Clothing, blankets with wool. Stay away from cotton(keeps in the cold and wet and removes the warmth). Do some more research online, get some camping books and educate yourself. Layer your clothes. You can always put more on then take more off.

I'm curious to why you're going camping in January? Why wouldn't you go during a warmer time of the year? Winter camping(even though you don't really get a winter) isn't really for everyone.

Yes, we all know about "pushing our buttons" and our little "pup tents" in the morning. TMI dude.

You are going to die masturbating in the tent in a forest fire.

Not sure how true this is. Lying on the ground your body heat is being dispersed through the entire earth. Which isn't very far of course. On an air matress you would be hearing the air in the air mattress, but air does not transmit heat we'll. Some greenhouses these days have inflatable walls to keep heat in at night.

I remember when heaters were optional in mobile homes we built on Fl. If you have electricity a little ceramic heater is the way to go. I have the Buddy and they are rated for indoor use. The problem is they go through some propane. I also have a little catalytic propane. It did not heat well in Tx in Nov..

I can't even imagine needing a 0 degree bag in Florida, let alone a heater.

You are correct. I do need to educate myself. We are having a meet @ Citrus, Fl & it's always scheduled around this time.

I'm leaning more towards taking proper equipment (good sleeping bags, padding, keeping our close warm also, etc., instead of the space heater. My wife & I are going to Bass Pro Shops this weekend & do some research. Citrus got as cold as 15 degrees once (1985) but it averages in the upper 30's to lower 40's for the most part in January.

Tac, I've done a lot of winter Florida camping, like many others have said, use an inflatable pad and a good sleeping bag and the cold won't be too much an issue.

    I use and love:

You are absolutely correct. I want my families first experience to leave them wanting more. As it is, I'm already looking to camp @ Hammocks Highlands in Sebring, Fl in March or April. My wife & I want to go there & bike ride also. The thing about Florida is that NOW is a good time to camp. In the summer it's a mosquito, heat, & humidity fest. I do have a smart phone & I'll do research. As for some of the comments, it's cool. I have a sense of humor.
    Thank you for your advice.

Thank you also Duck. I will look into those links also. Soon as I get a moment. Getting to work now.

    You are both very helpful.
    :)

Spend the money getting better sleeping bags instead of a gas space heater. There are deaths every year CO poisoning while camping with a gas space heater. Secondly If it gets kicked/knocked over in the night it WILL melt a hole through your tent.

A heater in a tent............... Crazy.

Look at what you are sleeping on, what you are sleeping in and what kind of a tent you have. I have a big Agnes flying diamond 8 and camp with wife and kids when it is really cold out.
