Where I live i rarely see people put their wiper blades up. When I was in Quebec back in 09' everyone did this. They got a lot of ice build up in the dead of winter(freezing rain). Sometimes that ice was so bad people would just lift their blades up and the rubber from the blade would stick to the ice on the window. Defroster must really work good in where you live and you must have no chips or cracks in your windshield. If you have cracks or chips in your windshield, using defrost a lot make me those spread like fire.

We get freezing rain here and it does stick the wipers to the windshield, all you need to do is run your Taco with the defroster on and it melts the ice.

    Great advice, right here.

However, I'll do the alcohol trick now, when I wash her.

I used to swear by rain x but the last set I bought blew apart after a couple of days. Caps fell off and the blades would start to slide out. So not going there again!

Anyone use the Silblade Flex Blade?

I do that. Reason being, it's less time to push them back down in the AM versus scrape the hell out of them. Remember my hatred of the cold..plus Linda screwing up her wipers trying to use the break-free method and costing us a few bucks, grrrr

x2, I just let the defroster run enough to freel the blades from the windshield before yanking on them and breaking the windshield wiper blade. Before last year, I had 5 chips in my windshield from rocks and studs, none of them spidered though.

I don't get the blades in the air thing either, since even if you do that you have to defrost your window before you can drive. 5 mins of defrost and you're good to go.

I usually do it so that the wiper is out of the way when i scrape the ice or clear the snow in the morning. I can't really just leave my Truck running while it's parked and let the defroster go until the ice is melted... they started handing out tickets for that.

How long you put your defrost on is going to depend on where you live. If you live in a place where there is a lot of freeze, thaw(warm during the day, freezing overnight). You're going to have your defroster in for longer. In most cases, it's just banging your wipers against your window to get the ice off. But if it's -35C outside, it's going to take longer than 5 minutes for the defrost to defrost everything.

There are some places that have idling laws. You couldn't idle your car for anymore than a few minutes or you could get a ticket. But there is some people who think that idling their car for 15 minutes is better for the car than starting to drive it after a few minutes. The only thing you're saving yourself from idling for that long is no being out in the cold. But it's not good for certain parts of your car.

In MA if I just have a layer of frost (this time of year), the washer will clear it quickly. Not my fave method but if I'm in a hurry it works.

It shouldn't hurt anything on the vehicle. If you were to have your windshield warm up and spray cold washer fluid on it, you could have a problem. Especially if you have a crack or a chip on your window. If the window is covered in snow and ice then it's just the person being lazy and not getting out to take the snow and ice off and just using their washer fluid.

I always get Rain x because their display is the most visible. I wonder who actually makes the best blade

I've had trico force, rain-x latitudes, anco (I think it was the contour), Goodyear blades, and various others.. But the icons seemed to work the best out of them all, especially in bad really poor weather.

I used to work at Oreilly auto parts and we actually had a lot of Anco wipers come back for warranty issues (figment, streaking, breaking) shortly after purchasing.

Exactly, if I do that I spray it right at startup.

Just replaced my blades from oem 8 point bracket contact ( which over time creates streaks from the pressure points) to the rainx latitudes (solid flex rib bracket). What a difference! It even rained last night so i got to test them. I am very pleased with them.
