The Perfect Setup For 2 Tens Down Firing!!! PICS

The box is 52" x 12" x 5" Deep!!!

I have two ten inch power acoustik STW subs. Their two and a half inches deep. And i have one inch of clearance at the bottom for both subs. This type of box is perfect for people who want deep bass but don't want space taken up. Also, my subs are powered by an alpine 600.1 mono amp. I managed to fit the amp under the passenger seat but i had to remove the brace bar under the passenger seat. If anyone wants exact measurements on this box, just let me know.

 

I used 3/4" MDF, just to clarify:
the top of the box is 52" x 12"
the two bottom parts for the subs are 20.5" x 12" with 9" Diameter hole
the two front and back sides are 52" x 3.5"
and the four left and right sides are 10.5" x 3.5"

The indent for the hump in the middle was i little difficult to measure correctly, but it is 11" wide and 1.5" tall. To be on the safe side, just get card board and cut the shape out until you feel comfortable it fits just right.

Also, i used 3/8" x 4" stud bolts to support the box on the 2" x 1" PVC pipe for the legs. This box is tri-supported so alot of weight can be supported on this box design.

 

I take it you dont have much people riding with you, Makes you look to hunch back, but nice set up.

 

i am hunched but i'm six foot tall and that seven inches from the box height doesn't make me all that uncomfotable.

Is there a reason for aiming the subs down other then to keep things from falling into them?

 

looks pretty good the only thing i would add are maybe two ports it might even out the sound since the subs are faced down

 

With subs down firing, your producing a deeper tone because there's less air space for the air to push in the direction of the sub. So the air gets pushed out to the sides which creates that cleaner deeper bass. And with this way, you reduce the chance of hearing distortion from the subs.

Also, having down firing subs is only ideal for vehicles where the air space is tighter, trucks, small suv's and such

I had a 2 P3d10s firing down in my old Titan..thing slammed. I'm looking for the best setup..I want 2 10s under the DC seat..anyone do that? Ever see a box under the DC seats in 05+

 

Fronts - yes - 8" slim fits.

Rear - no - want to see some though.

 

Just wanted to add that down firing is a form of "boundary loading" which is why it improves low end response as well as output however some woofers are not good candidates for down firing due to the amount of moving mass in relation to suspension stiffness (commonly known as "woofer sag"). Also, you want to leave at least 2" or so of clearance for a 10" sub in order to keep it from "pre-loading" and negating the benefits.

 

everyone take my advice and don't consider putting subs underneath the seats of access cabs. i just don't see them working properly. cause whether you want to stuff an 8" sub, there won't be enough room for the sub to breath. AND DO NOT LIFT THE SEATS!!! I tried this with some washers to make my amp fit and i stripped one of my bolts that anchor the seat to the truck. It's the angle the front bolts go in that make this very difficult to do.

I've considered every possible way to fit any pair of subs in my access cab. that wouldn't take alot of effort to build, that wouldn't chop up the interior so when i trade in my truck, it wasn't torn apart from my stereo equipment. my only choices where to build a low profile box, build an enclosure in my rear bucket storage compartments, or build a single box that will extend out my center console.

 

Hope you don't mind me hijacking your thread a bit LAV but I just wanted to mention that I have a plan available for those that can get by with one sub. Below is the initial enclosure I built for a specific sub with a larger than typical basket however the new plan does not have the same flange and will fit most "typical" 10's. If anyone wants to build one for themselves let me know and I'll draw the plan in scale and fax it to you (unfortunately I won't have time to produce these myself for a couple of weeks yet).
